The next morning, as I was getting ready for the day, I took some time to read the book we had been given the day before.
I reread the entire chapter about everything they had taught us in the first Extraterrestrial Studies class, containing spectacular photos of the planet that the Circelians themselves had decided to share. Then, the next chapter was called "Differences between Humans and Circelians".
A series of diagrams and texts explained the physical and physiological differences between Circelians and humans. Thus, reading and turning the pages I came to an illustration where a dark-skinned man and a white woman with blonde hair in a bun appeared, both showing their backs.
On the man's back there were 12 almost circular white skin marks that were evenly distributed following the line of his spine. In the woman there were 11 and these were almost identical in color to the man's skin.
"These marks account for the evolutionary past of the Circelians, similar to humans. This is because the primates from which the Circelians descend had a characteristic fur pattern, which over time led to the marks that the Circelians have on their backs. The number of marks usually varies in number from 10 to 12 marks, very rarely observing 13. This last situation is scarce enough to be considered by different Circelian spiritual branches, as an omen mainly of good luck. "The text said. under the photo.
The next page showed a diagram comparing human and Circelian teeth. Which, unlike human teeth, had one more canine for each of the humans, and wisdom teeth a little smaller than human teeth.
Other differences cited in the chapter were that Circelians had a different structure in their ribs, and they also absorbed more protein than humans. Although this was a small amount more, it was enough for the Circelians to have a higher percentage of muscle mass and better physical performance.
It was fascinating how beings from two different planets had evolved to be extremely similar and at the same time so different. And I wanted to know more, which is why I would have read the entire book on Circelus that day and at that time, but the Metis system alarm reminded me that I had things to do if I wanted to meet said Circelians, in less than two weeks.
"Your training will begin in 15 minutes."
After finishing my breakfast and brushing my teeth, I grabbed my backpack and headed out. I made the short trip from the house to the gym, and left my bike outside.
- Early bird? – I heard a voice.
- No, nocturnal creature with terrible sleeping patterns - I said.
Then I turned to meet Jasper, who was dropping off his bike as well.
-How are you, Jasper? -I said, and I noticed that his backpack had several patches, some were worn and had what I assumed were drawings of airplanes; There was one with a sun with a face like those on Tarot cards, and there was another patch that had three white circles, which then said a name that I couldn't read.
