The sky slowly dressed up in a dark grey apparel, heavy rain threatening the air as the footsteps echoed between the cold walls of the castle. The two women finally arrived at the professor's office.
With a hand gesture Matilda invited her beloved niece to sit on the chair in front of her desk as she went sitting on hers. Maya's gaze went to the chair, perplexed about it but there was a need to understand the situation. The girl sat down with absolute reluctantly as her face showed easily her discontentment.
"I can see you're unhappy about something. Shall I conclude that you're aware of what I was about to talk to you about?" Professor Weasley asked.
"If you're talking about my engagement dear aunt then yes I think I'm well informed about it even though I totally despise the way I have learned about it and what I hate even more it's the fact that no one asked for my approval for it!" Maya said furiously.
"As fiery as my dear sister May, your mother as I see. Never hiding her thoughts or feelings even if it doesn't feel right to do so according to the society. Listen to me, I know it hasn't been a year we acknowledged the fact that we're from the same family and that you're still new to the wizarding world but this is how things are done. Arranged marriage between pureblood is a tradition."
"I couldn't care less about your traditions, how about my feelings? You know my story, what I've been through and yet you're deciding on my behalf to marry me to Ominis Gaunt! And I'm supposed to be happy with it?" Her anger was rising as she stood up, her hands on the table.
"Listen to me carefully young lady. Your knowledge about our world is thin and I'm trying to protect you with this engagement. I better see you betrothed to Gaunt which to my observations treats you right and seems to be fond of you than seeing you be engaged later to someone else who would only make you feel unwanted like Sallow has been lately. You probably thought that I didn't know about you flirting with him but I'm well aware as I have eyes and ears everywhere in this castle. Now act a bit more like a mature lady so we can talk more about that matter." Matilda retorted.
Maya couldn't say anything as she understood the point of her aunt too well. Her life has been hell ever since her childhood, she only had one source on happiness during this period of her existence and she lost it all by her own fault as if happiness wasn't made for her. With resignation, she sat back on her chair, ready to hear whatever that was meant to be said.
"Did you know about Sebastian? And more importantly do you have someone you love who reciprocates?" Her aunt asked as she went to take a look by the window.
"I realised about him pretty late... I was wondering about him and..." Maya paused, her fingertips came across her lips as she reminisced the kiss left by Axel earlier. "I gave up on Sallow. As for if I have someone I love... I... I'm not sure... It's still pretty much new and I'm not sure where it will lead but I felt like... There's something strong, something I never felt before except..."
"Except that boy from your childhood?" she asked, giving her a sharp look. "Maya don't you realize that what you lived once can't be restored. Whoever you're talking about he isn't that boy and moreover I was asking about a serious relationship which would maybe break your engagement not a nascent one."
"But Aunt Matilda!"
"No but young lady, you'll do as I say. The Gaunts want the engagement to be official as soon as possible so there will be an engagement ball tomorrow night. But they'd like to meet you first so tonight there'll be a dinner for you to meet Ominis' father, Malachi Gaunt and I expect nothing less from you than acting like a well-educated lady I know you can be." Matilda was concised.
"Yes, aunt Matilda. I'll do as you say." Maya said with a nod as her look went down in resignation.
"Good, now that everything is clear, you can go. Garreth will come to take you at seven pm to lead you to the carriage to go to the Gaunt's Manor where we will dine." Professor Weasly added.
The redhead nodded again, stood up and went out of her aunt's office. As she walks ouside, the sky cracked and the heavy rain started to pour all over the place. Step by step, her body led her to the middle of the transfiguration courtyard where the rain fell on her, drawing her silouhette through her clothes. As the girl arrived to the Wyvern fountain, all strenght withdrew from her body, falling on the stone bench of the fountain. Maya started to cry under the rain, her heart as weighty as the unseen shackles that were tying her destiny to Ominis Gaunt.
Her breath was hastening as it deepened at the same time, a wave of profound anxiety emerged from the depths of her soul as she shouted out loud her distress. Her arms around her stomach, tightening herself as her body was folding. An emergency call of her essence that reached the ears of another redhead that was passing by. The student ran to her, taking the girl into his embrace, trying to talk to her.
"Maya! Maya look up, it's me Garreth! You can't stay here, you can't be sick for this evening or you know how our aunt will react. Now come with me, let's get you inside to the nearest fireplace to dry you up. You're freezing Maya!"
The Ravenclaw was indeed trembling, the cold penetrated her flesh to her bones. By chance, the young Weasley had always a towel in his bag just in case his potions don't go well and placed it on his cousin. He lef her to the library where the nearest fireplace was, trying to be discreet so the librarian wouldn't notice them coming in while being dripping wet.
Maya remained silent, still in under the chock of the idea of being the soon to be Mrs. Gaunt. Her cousin understood how she was feeling, he knew her too well. Ever since she arrived as miss Scamander, Garreth and her have been the bestest friend ever, sharing all their secrets. The boy wrapped her body woth his arms, giving her more warmth in hope she'll find a bit of solace. Her head went on his chest as she fell asleep with the heat of the fireplace and her cousin's body. Weasley let her take a nap as he knew she needed to find some peace before the next storm. Tightening his embrace, he swung her lightly, lulling her into some nicer thoughts and dreams.
