Chapter 21

"Matagal din tayong hindi nagkita, Sadie."

I was staring at his drowsy eyes. He looked sleepy maybe because of the liquor he was holding.

"You're a mess, Samuel. You should sleep." I took the liquor from his hand and drank it.

He chuckled and stared at the kids who were still holding a firecracker. Nasa park kami ng subdivision ngayon dahil nagkasalubong kami kanina. I started moving the swing while staring at the sky. Tahimik na ito ngayon. Wala ng fireworks na nagkalat doon.

"Kung matutulog ako paano ka, Sadie?"

Ngumiti ako at tumingin sa kaniya. "I can take care of my own, Samuel. Nakaya ko nga ng iniwasan mo ako, remember?" his lips parted at me.

"You knew right?" I asked.

"Ang alin. . . Sadie?" his eyes were pleading as if he didn't want me to spill the truth.

"Alam mo na nagpapanggap lang ako." I smiled when a tear fell on his cheeks. "I know, you would think how pathetic I've become."

Tumayo siya sa pagkakaupo sa swing na katabi ko. He then stood in front of me but the next thing he said broke me. "Mahal kita, Sadie."

I chuckled. "Why now? Bakit dati hindi mo sinabi?" I swallowed the lump in my throat. He was just staring at me. The sadness in his eyes were evident.

"You are a coward, Samuel. You are just like them. You played with my feelings and oh. . . you even courted my bestfriend." I chuckled.

His eyes became more blurry. Pain could be seen in there as if he was hurt more than I did.

"Dahil ayaw kong masira ang matagal nating pinagsamahan, Sadie." his voice broke. "Isa ka sa pinaka importanteng tao sa akin at ayaw kong masira tayo dahil lang mahal kita."

I chuckled, I remove the tears that fell on my cheeks. "At ano? Pagkatapos mong ipakilala sa akin ang girlfriend mo, nabuo ba tayo Samuel? Masaya ka bang nagka watak-watak tayo?" I raised my voice at him.

He shook his head. He couldn't even mutter a single word. Tumawa ako ng tumawa hanggang sa mapalitan ito ng hikbi. Just fuck christmas!

"Alam mo bang matapos kong sabihin sayo kung gaano kita kamahal noong araw na yun. . . kilig na kilig ako habang kinikwento sa magiging girlfriend mo kung paano tayo kasaya magtitigan."

His lips parted.

"I told her that I like the way you took after me. I told her that I like it when you kiss my forehead. When you suddenly give me flowers on my birthday, christmas, new year, valentines and whatever fucking occasion it was! Lahat-lahat sinabi ko Samuel! Ang saya diba?" I closed my eyes. Bumabalik lang ang sakit na nararamdaman ko nung araw na iyon.

"Araw-araw halos ipamukha mo sa akin na ako lang ang babaeng gusto mo! Pero kung kailan. . . kailangan na kailangan ko ang atensyon mo saka mo ako pinarusahan Samuel! Sinaktan mo ako, Samuel! Pinagmukha mo kong tanga!" I punched his chest while we were both tearing up.

"Naduwag ako, Sadie. I'm sorry," humikbi siya.

"Sana nga madadala ng sorry mo 'yong pinaramdam mo sa akin." tinitigan ko siya sa mata. "Ayusin mo ang sarili mo, Samuel. Ipagpatuloy mo ang pangarap mo dahil hindi ko na maibabalik pa ang pagtingin ko sayo."

My grip tightened as I walked slowly outside the park. I stared back at him again and he was still standing there. His hands were covering his face.

I breathe in the air; Christmas should be fun, but here I am, tearing up like the world destined this to happen to me.
