"Amara, what's wrong love?"
I paused for a second when I found Lucien nearly standing in my position. I didn't hear his footsteps when I was talking to Brandon. His forehead was creased and his eyes looked so worried. His current reaction was far from the illusion I have in my mind.
"Hey. . ." he caressed my cheek as if those could remove the worries I had inside my head.
Did he hear our conversation?
"Lucien, have you heard about this?"
I showed him the article I had seen online. It gathered a lot of comments from the netizens. Some were even saying that Lucien didn't have a single feature from the Governor.
"May kapatid ka palang babae?" my voice almost broke but I didn't want him to know that I knew.
That I knew everything so well.
His eyes dilated to the screen of my phone. He wasn't saying anything. His cold gray eyes glued to mine. They were looking at me like they wanted silent communication. I thought he would say something but his face was careless.
"Don't overthink too much, Amara." he smiled and caressed both of my cheeks.
He was hiding it. He was hiding his worries from me. He kept on smiling ever since we came here like the problems he would face didn't concern him anymore.
"Let's go back. The countdown is near." he said softly. A wave of weird emotion passed through my chest. I felt my knees went weak and my feet were glued to the floor. They could hardly follow Lucien's footsteps.
I was silently staring at his back. We are nearly going to celebrate new year but it feels like we are feasting the all saints day.
While marching back to our villa, a wave of memories was passing through my mind. His smiles, the way he caressed my hands and held them gently, the new memories we spent together, my stay at his mansion, his warm eyes that could melt me like sunshine, his hugs and kisses.
All of it made my knees weaker.
I know after this, we are not going to last long. I have to face the repercussions of my actions. My vengeful act would not justify the pain he was hiding in his eyes. Lucien was too soft with me. He doesn't deserve my existence.
I need to get lost in his life.
We ate our dinner late. It was almost midnight when we finished. Lucien was silent the whole time. I have no idea what's going on in his mind. The only sound of the utensil could be heard between us.
"Lucien," I called.
Swiftly, he gazed at me and smiled. It breaks me to see him do that. I know he was hurting but why would he act like everything's fine?
"Yes love?" malambing niyang tugon.
I cleared the lump in my throat. But no matter how much I wanted to say it in front of him the words would just melt inside my mouth. I reached for his hand and spoke.
"Lucien, I have something to say. . ."
His eyes were starting to turn red but no tears could be seen in there. They were pleading as if he was scared of what I was going to say.
"Let's not talk about it Amara, please?"
"But Lucien,"
"Please. . ." he sounded almost pleading.
His soft voice was not good in the ears anymore. I wanted to hate myself. I wanted to get mad at Lucien. He can yell at me. He can hit me. But why is he holding it?
