LUCIEN

"Lucien, this is my wife, Alora. From now on, she will be your mother."

My eyes followed the footsteps of my father going out of my new room. He said we'd be moving to a new house, and I'd get to meet his wife, who would eventually become my mother. But I'm not interested in having a new mother. The person who gave birth to me is currently employed overseas.

I was greeted by her smile filled with delight. She knelt in front of me to meet my perplexed eyes.

"Hi Lucien, my name is Alora."

I nodded at her. "You are the Governor of the City?"

She clasped her hands. "Wow, how did you know?"

I turned away from her and slipped my books out of my backpack. The room filled with deafening silence. My wristwatch read precisely the time of my study routine.

I need to study hard to get a high-paying career in the future so that my mother can quit working abroad. I want her to return home. I want us to be reunited.

"If you need anything, don't hesitate to call us, okay?"

"Okay..." I muttered without looking at her.

I marched out onto the balcony and slid the sliding door once she had finally left. The crisp air from the garden maze prickles my skin. I keep my eyes on the page I am reading, but the idea of staying in this mansion with his new family never leaves my thoughts.

I closed my book and leaned out onto the balcony. I had to sit on the floor and fit both of my little feet between the railing.

Should I go to bed? I fought with my dad, so I spent the entire night studying. I'm still upset with him for making me come here. I had no desire for an additional mother.

I rested my head against the thick bars, letting my gaze drift down to the grass below. I observed a woman who had thick curly hair. She was wearing a fancy bracelet, necklace, and earrings made of pearls.

She was brushing a child's hair similar to hers. The young girl blinked twice at her, and a smile peeked through her red lipstick.

"Lo...nie? Lonie..." She laughed when she heard the two-year-old kid trying to form a word.

"Lonie. Lo-ni-e-," She pronounced perfectly.

The child shook her head back and forth until she stumbled and fell off the grass. The woman laughed and gave her a gentle pat. I was about to head back inside so I could read my books with concentration.

However, I stopped when the child smiled at me when she noticed that I was staring at her. She waved her little hands in the air while meeting my bored gaze.

"Lonie lo-ok..." Her cute giggles echoed in the garden.

The woman pursed her lips and fixed her gaze on me. Suddenly, an intimidating aura crept across her face, prompting me to rush back into my room.

I cast another glance at the door. I can't believe the woman can shift her mood quickly. Her red lipstick terrified me. I know she's stunning, but her stare creeps me out.

I sat in the corner of my king-sized bed and reopened my book. I forced myself to comprehend every detail of the text. Sooner, I'm going to a primary school and I want my name on the top of the list.

I wanted to do well in class so that my mother could come home and place my medals around my neck. I'm willing to do anything to bring my mother back.

I studied the whole afternoon and didn't realize that I fell asleep. When I woke up, I stretched my feet while the soft mat was brushing against my skin. I stood up and walked towards the door.
