Eden

I let out a sigh as I plopped down onto the couch. Shedeur and I were moving into our new home and things had been hectic. With the season coming up he had a lot of practices, workouts, and other business endeavors to tend to. He'd insisted that I wait until he got home to unpack, but I just couldn't allow myself to be that unproductive. Besides I thought it'd be a nice surprise for him to get home and see how much progress had been made.

My current project was putting together our dining room set. After looking at the instructions for the table, I was sure it wasn't as complicated as it seemed, so I got to work.

I could hear the sound of the garage, meaning Shedeur was home, and right on time because I'd just finished. It had taken me hours, but I had wasted a lot of time playing with Bruno and taking snack breaks.

"Baby? Where you at?" He called out, "Dining room!" I responded, hearing his footsteps approaching.

I greeted him with a proud smile on my face, using my arms to do a "ta-da" motion towards the table.

"I told you wait till I got home. How you even got it in here?" he questioned stepping closer to place a kiss on my lips.

"That's irrelevant, you like it?" I changed the topic, not wanting to reminisce on how I'd struggled to get the table inside once it was delivered.

He didn't say anything, making me look up at him to see him staring at the table intently.

"Shedeur you picked this table out, how you gone not like it?" I said while frowning and folding my arms.

The way I was feeling, even if he didn't like it, he was just going to have to grow to love it. I did not spend all this time putting this table together just for us to send it back.

"Nah it's not that, and don't get mad when I say this, but I don't think you did it right. Can I see the instructions?"

I grabbed the little pamphlet off the floor and handed it to him, waiting on him to apologize for doubting me and just admit he didn't want the table, but the apology didn't come.

"Yea it look like you got the legs on wrong." He gently touched the table and it was obviously more on the unstable side.

"Oh my God! Are you sure? Let me see that. Maybe they just sent a defective table." I grabbed the instructions from him, looking at the table, and sure enough I had done it wrong.

"Fuck." I said going to take a seat on the couch. Shedeur came to sit beside me, placing a comforting arm on my shoulder.

"It's alright ma, you almost had it." He said with a slight chuckle, at least he was amused about it.

"I guess this what I get for overdoing it huh...at least I didn't get to the chairs." I joked making him laugh again.

"Yea. I got some free time tomorrow so I'll fix it then, come on let's go to bed." He stood up, offering me his hand. I took it and he pulled me to my feet, leading me to our bedroom.

He'd put our bed together when we first moved in so really I should've known to leave the handiwork to him.

We both performed our nighttime routines, and got comfortable in one another's arms. I was glad I'd decided to move forward in life with him. I couldn't imagine missing out on the feeling I get from going to sleep and waking up to him every morning.

"I love you." he sleepily mumbled, making a small smile form on my face.

"I love you too."

After that, sleep came easy.
