Sophie:
I slowly woke up, hearing excited voices in the room.
"She's awake!"
"Get Elwin."
As my eyes focused, I saw many smiling faces and familiar people around me.
"How long was I out?" I asked, still feeling groggy.
"About a day," Edaline replied softly.
Then it hit me. "Wait! Where's Keefe?! Is he okay?! And why did all of this happen?!"
Elwin rushed in with a tray of fifteen exliers. "We'll answer your questions after you have these. You lost a lot of blood, Sophie. Take it easy."
I glanced around and saw Keefe on the cot next to me, but a sharp pain shot through my forehead, forcing me to lay my head back down.
"Is he okay?" I asked again.
"He's going to be. He should wake up soon. It was touch and go for a while, but he pulled through."
Relief washed over me, and I slowly sat up, ready to tackle the stack of exliers.
"I'm so glad you're okay, honey," Edaline whispered.
"Me too, Mom." I squeezed her hand, giving her a grateful smile. I knew this must have been tough for her and Grady, especially after thinking all the near-death stuff was finally over.
"Is Ro here? Is she okay?" I inquired.
"I'm good, Blondie," a voice came from the corner.
"Thanks for, you know... going to get help."
"No problem." She leaned against the wall. "I just wish I had done it faster... or knew what the heck was going on."
"So... you don't know why all the explosions happened?"
"Nope. But there are investigations happening at the moment, and hopefully we'll hear back soon."
"I hope so," I replied, swallowing the last disgusting concoction.
My eyes searched for Dex, and when our gazes met, I flashed him a grateful smile. "Thanks for saving us, Dex."
"Of course," he grinned. "What are best friends for?"
"Yeah, seriously, Dex. You're a hero," I say sincerely.
Dex shrugged, trying to hide his bashful smile. "I just did what anyone would do for their friends."
Fitz rolled his eyes playfully, snaking his arm around Dex's waist "Yeah, but not everyone can do it with such style."
We all laughed, and I've never been so grateful for Dex's gadgets.
"So, what's the plan now?" I asked.
"Well we obviously need to focus on you and Keefe's recovery and we need to wait for the authorities to finish their investigation," Alden butts in. "In the meantime, you all need to lay low and stay safe. We don't know who or what did this"
I nodded, at this point in my life I definitely understand the importance of staying out of trouble.
"We've got your back, Sophie," Biana assured me, her eyes filled with determination.
"Thanks Bee."
Now all I need is for Keefe to wake up.
I know I can get through this if I have him by my side.
