Sophie:

"So you're saying it's all King Dimitri's fault?" I asked, my voice filled with disbelief.

Mr. Forkle hesitated, his expression troubled. "He was experimenting with substances he shouldn't have had access to. Though he claims he had no malicious intent and he did it as a precaution against more potential rebels, it's hard to know what to believe at the minute."

My grip tightened on Keefe's hand as I spoke. "But we could have died."

Mr. Forkle rubbed his tired eyes, dark circles visible beneath them. He seemed exhausted.

Keefe's concern for Ro was evident in his question. "Will he face any punishment?"

"I honestly don't know," Mr. Forkle admitted. "It depends on the actions the other leaders decide to take."

I couldn't help but voice my frustration. "He destroyed his own city, and killed innocent people. How can he not face punishment?"

"Ms. Foster, I understand your anger," Mr. Forkle replied, his tone empathetic. "But what happens next is in the hands of the other leaders."

"Now if you'll excuse me, I have a meeting with the council, if you need me just call." And with that he leaves Havenfield without another word.

Taking a deep breath, I turned to Keefe.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his ice-blue gaze filled with concern.

I sigh, unsure of the answer. "I don't know. It's clear that we have no control over the situation."

Keefe tried to offer a glimmer of hope. "I'm sure they'll give us some say."

"Do you really think so?" I sighed again. "Honestly, I'm not even sure if I want to be involved. I just want to avoid any more drama."

Keefe nodded understandingly, his eyes filled with empathy. "I get it, Foster. It's overwhelming, and you've been through so much already. Drama seems to follow you everywhere." The last line was teasing, but it was so true.

I leaned closer to him, seeking comfort in his presence. "Exactly. I just want a break from all the chaos. Is that too much to ask for?"

He squeezed my hand reassuringly. "No, it's not. You deserve your own time. Time where you're not running around saving people and almost dying."

"Keefe?" I ask nervously.

"Yeah?"

"Do you wanna go to Atlantis, and just y'know do stuff?"

"Wow. You're bad at this." He laughs "yes foster, I'd love to go on a date with you."

I flush red with embarrassment.

He pretends to swoon. "I can't believe Sophie Foster has asked me on a date."

"Shut up." I moan, but a smile creeps onto my face before I realize it.

But then his expression turns serious. "Y'know I'm here Foster." He wraps his arms around me, pulling into a hug that seemed to make everything ok.

I smile, hugging him tighter. "I know."
