Amalia

I finished paying for the earrings and Mr. Jones hastily led me to the exit.

"How could you do that?" He asked with a look of disappointment, and I glared at him.

"What are you talking about?"

He sighed in frustration and explained everything to me.

"So you dragged me out of the store just because of that?" I asked, completely taken aback. I thought it was something serious. I tried to walk back to the store but he stood in the way.

"Amalia. This is serious. He's planning on pressing charges against you because of what you did. Do you not care about your career anymore?"

I rolled my eyes and deviated my gaze. This was annoying. I'm such an idiot. I completely forgot that I gave him Mr Jones' business card. Now I had to deal with him.

"Does he have proof?"

"The rental car. It has a dash cam and I'm pretty sure it recorded everything. It's not our car so we can't just delete the footage. There is also security footage."

"What does he want? Money? If so I can just give him a couple of-"

"He wants a physical apology, Amalia. From you."

I glanced at him in surprise. "What? I must apologize to someone like him physically?! Who does he think he is? Most people would have to pay just to meet me-"

"He is a human being and you have violated his rights. Not only did you not apologize to him but you also called him something in front of people. You commited defamation of character."

"Is that what he told you?"

"Yes."

"This is something an insurance fraudster would do. He got lucky with this one. How is it defamation of character when what I said about him is true?"

He sighed and placed his index finger on his temple to massage it. "So that's what you called him," he said in a soft, defeated voice.

I folded my arms as I thought about him. What was his name again? I think it was Choi Ji-hoon. If I remember correctly, his badge implied that he worked at a restaurant a few minutes from the hotel. I glanced at my watch. It was just half past four.

"Fine. I'll go apologize to him."

His eyes widened and he shook his head. "I told him that I'd apologize on your behalf. I don't think it's safe for you to go on your own."

"Nope. Don't worry about that. I'll go do it myself. I already know where he works so I'll go meet him there."

"But-"

"I caused this mess so I have to fix it. I'll show him who he's dealing with."

He squinted his eyes suspiciously "This is so out of character. What are you up to, Amalia?"

"Nothing," I said with a smile and I noticed that it made me look even more suspicious.

"And what if he's a creep who's obsessed with you?"

"Trust me he's not. Especially the way he acted when he saw me. That's not a look a fan of mine would give me. Besides, we'll meet in a public area. He can't do anything to me, especially in his place of work. Middle-class people don't have the power to do whatever they want."

"Are you sure?"

"Yep. Just drop me off by the restaurant that's a few blocks away from the hotel and I'll handle it from there."
