Amalia
The woman scorned, scrutinizing me before averting her piercing gaze back to Yeon-Jae, "I asked you a question." she hissed.
Yeon-Jae immediately released his grip on my waist and stood in front of me as if he was shielding me from her, "What are you doing here?" he asked and she sighed, "I do not wish to speak out in the open like this. Let's talk inside--"
"How did you know I was here?" he asked, a hint of frustration and suspicion in his tone.
She sighed again, "Because you guys always meet here. Even if you weren't here, I would've asked Yeon-Jin anyway." she shot back.
She took a step forward and Yeon-Jae stood his ground as he shielded me from her. "Who is she?" she asked and Yeon-Jae shook his head, "That's none of your business--"
She snicked and I peered past his shoulder so that I could get a better look at her. She folded her arms and glared at him, "Is this how you speak to your mother-in-law? Yeon-Jae, do you not realize how shocked we were when we found out that you lied to us? You deceived us! This whole time, you were the Heir of Gochu Ramyun?!" she yelled, her frown deepening at every word.
My eyebrows shot up as I realized she was Ae-ri's mother. It all made sense why she was reacting that way. And how could they not know that Yeon-Jae was the Heir of Gochu Ramyun? Was it right for me, an outsider, to know before them? They're his future in-laws, for heaven's sake.
I might not know how awful she is, but this wasn't right. She was getting the wrong idea, and I didn't want either me or Yeon-Jae to get in trouble for it-especially me, because who knows how chaebols are when you get on their bad side? I took a few deep breaths and prepared myself. Then, I let go of the strong grip I had on his clothes and stepped out. His eyes widened at my actions. "Amalia," he said, his face showing a hint of caution, but I returned it with a weak smile.
"She'll get the wrong idea if you act like this," I said to him as I walked up to the now irritated woman. She stared at me with sheer ridicule on her face, but I pretended not to notice. All I wanted to do was clear the air and probably get out of there ASAP.
I bowed deeply. "My apologies for the misunderstanding. I didn't come here with-"
"How dare you speak to me when I did not once speak to you?" she said, her voice filled with irritation and disgust. My eyes widened in shock as I looked up at her.
"What?"
She clicked her tongue and looked at Yeon-Jae. "So this is the woman Ae-ri was complaining about, right?"
I turned and looked at Yeon-Jae. Ae-ri told her family about me? For real?!
Mrs. Kim clicked her tongue, averting my attention back to her. "What now? Are your parents hiding her from us too?" she said, her voice filled with mockery.
She looked at me, scoffed, and took a few steps closer. Then she folded her arms and leaned towards my face. "Or is she just a leech?" she said. My jaws dropped at her audacity to talk about me to my face.
At that point, I didn't care who she was or who she said she was, and I frowned. "A leech?" I asked, and she smirked and spoke in a low, menacing voice, "What do you want? Money? How much is Yeon-Jae paying you?"
"Money? Do I look like I need money? How many times do I have to tell you that I didn't come here with Yeon-Jae--"
"Amalia," Yeon-Jae called out and I turned around to look at him. He walked up to me and placed his hand on my shoulder, "Just go inside, I'll handle this."
I protested, "But--"
"Now. Please."
I bit my lower lip and complied as I walked away and towards the restaurant. I swear if it wasn't for Yeon-Jae, that woman would've gotten a piece of my mind.
