Yeon-Jae/Ji-Hoon
"It's been a while Choi Yeon-Jae. How have you been?" the chairman (Ae-Ri's grandfather) asked, and I bowed again. He then placed his hands on my shoulders and patted them before pulling me in for a hug.
After that, we all took our seats. "It has been a while since we all gathered like this." Father agreed and the Chairman grinned "We need to meet up more frequently, especially since our family will soon become one." Chairman added and I noticed that Father, Mother, and Yeon-Jin's smiles dimmed a bit.
"I understand what you're saying. But we haven't completely decided yet about whether we want Yeon-Jae and Ae-Ri to have an arranged marriage or not. I mean, you know our family isn't fond of those things..." Mother said and the room went silent for a whole minute.
"So was the restaurant that I gifted to your son not enough?" the Chairman asked, and Mother frowned.
Father noticed the tension and chuckled. "Why don't we order our food first," he said, and the Chairman noticed. He then called for a waiter and ordered the chef's choice.
Some time passed and the waiter entered with the food.
As soon as the waiter left, the Chairman narrowed his eyes as he looked at Mother. "I thought I was specific about what the deal was when I gave him the restaurant."
Wow, despite his age his memory was astounding.
"Did we ask you for the restaurant?" Mother asked and father immediately intervened to prevent a fight from breaking out.
"We know." Father nodded and our attention shifted towards him. "We understand the deal, but we want Yeon-Jin to get married first. Why the rush-"
"Tch. You want Yeon-Jin to get married first?" Ae-Ri's mother, Mrs. Kim, taunted as she scoffed. She then placed her chopsticks down, folded her arms, and looked at Yeon-Jin.
"Then you tell me, Choi Yeon-Jin. That minister's daughter you're seeing. Are you going to marry her anytime soon?" she asked.
Yes. Yeon-Jin was already in a relationship with a government officials daughter named Jung Kyung-mi. They've been dating for about two years and the public already knew about it. However. They prefer to keep their relationship private. He's usually always with Jung Kyung-mi but she traveled to the UK for a business trip last week and would only be back next week.
"That's going to be a conversation between her family and mine," Yeon-Jin replied, and she clicked her tongue.
"And isn't it unfair how Yeon-Jin has the right to choose his wife while Yeon-Jae has to bear the weight of an heir?" Mother interrupted and Mrs. Kim sighed.
"Mrs. Choi, don't you understand? As soon as they get married, we will begin with our project. That's the only condition I gave you guys, and you still refuse? You know that this project will increase our wealth and power indefinitely. So, the sooner we do this, the better." Chairman said and Father gritted his teeth.
The Chairman then frowned.
"And don't forget that if it wasn't for the SJ group, the Tae-ho group wouldn't be standing as tall as they are now. So as long as the Tae-ho group is standing. You should be grateful to us." he said as he leaned in.Mother and Father deviated their gaze shamelessly. I hated how he kept using that against us.
He then looked at me, his gaze piercing me through his glasses. "Are you not happy to be engaged with Ae-Ri?"
"I-"
"Whether he is happy or not doesn't matter, Grandfather." Ae-Ri intervened, and we turned to look at her. She then sighed and took a sip of her wine.
