Ae-ri
I cringed as I mixed the kimchi with my hands. Although I was wearing gloves, I could still feel the texture.
"Good job, ladies, you're going to put the Kimchi in the container and then the refrigerator. And that's how you make Kimchi, ladies." the chef said, and everyone in the room clapped their hands and sighed in exhaustion.
"Okay. It's time for a short break, and then we'll continue. This time, we'll be making Kimbab with the Kimchi I pre-prepared for this lesson." she continued.
I removed my gloves and sighed. Who knew cooking was exhausting?
I attended a cooking class led by a woman who owned a three-star Michelin restaurant. Frankly, I didn’t enroll by choice; Mrs. Choi insisted that I learn to cook before getting married. I found it unnecessary since they already had private chefs. I only joined to stay on her good side.
I knew for sure that once I got married, the only time I'd ever step into the kitchen would be to eat because, after this class, I’d never touch a pot again.
"Ae-ri, how was the lesson?" Mrs Choi asked as she approached me with her close friends. They were the wives of businessmen and government officials.
I smiled brightly and bowed to show respect. "No need to bow, Ae-ri, you're like a daughter to me now," she said, and I smirked.
"It was really fun. Kimchi is such a fun dish to make." I said and she smiled along with the others.
"I knew you'd enjoy it. I can't wait for you to cook for us one day," she said and I cringed again but forcefully maintained a smile.
"Mother, I was looking for you." Yeon-Jin's girlfriend, Jung Kyung-mi, said, and everyone turned to look at her, their faces lighting up. Urgh not her again. Kyung-mi has been attending these classes for longer than I have and has noticeably grown closer to everyone here.
"Kung-mi, how was the lesson? I'm sure you aced it just like always." Mrs Choi said and I rolled my eyes.
"Would you like to taste the paste I made for the Kimchi? There's still some leftovers since I made a bit too much." Kyung-mi, giggling in the process. I rolled my eyes.
Everyone went to her table and she gave them all teaspoons to taste her paste. Everyone's eyes widened in surprise.
"Wow, this is good, Kyung-mi. Your hands are honestly blessed." one of Mrs. Choi's friends said in awe and the others nodded in agreement.
"I'm honestly so jealous of you Mrs. Choi, you have such a beautiful, intelligent, and great cook for a daughter." her other friend said.
I clicked my tongue and took off my apron. Just then, Kyung-MI pointed at me "I'm sure Ae-ri's one tastes much better than mine. She's only been here for a few weeks but I'm sure she's just as good. I mean, she skipped the beginners class because she was already skilled in cooking." she said and I glared at her. The only reason I skipped the beginners class was to get close to Mrs. Choi. She was definitely up to something.
"Can we taste yours, Ae-ri? Mrs. Choi asked and I averted my gaze. Dang it, what should I do?
Kyung-mi laughed a bit. "Don't pressurize her too much; she's probably still shy."
