As I enter the house I call for you, when there's no answer I find you curled in on yourself trembling.

"Oh no little one what happened?" I ask kneeling down before you. When I get no answer I continue "is it all just getting too much?" I ask knowing you've been having a rough time. Those teary eyes look up at me and nod. "Ok, emergency cuddle session required." I gently scoop you up and put you in the pocket of my hoody. I hold you while you're in there, my huge hand a grounding force letting you know you're not on your own. I go into the kitchen and make us a cup of tea just how you like it then carry the tea and you up the stairs to the bedroom. I sit on the bed leaning back against the headboard and pull you out of my pocket. I place you onto my chest and hand you your tiny mug of tea I've filled from my own. I cup my hand behind you to lean against as I take a sip from my tea.

"Want to talk about it?" You shake your tiny head and sip your tea. "That's ok, I'm here for you, we'll get you through this." We sit in comfortable silence drinking our tea and I gently rub my thumb up and down your back. When we've finished our drinks I put the mugs on the bedside table and hold you close to my chest, my hand like a huge weighted blanket for you, a barrier protecting you from the world. I stroke your head softly with my huge thumb and hum gently. You can feel the sound and vibrations of it right through your tiny body. You rise and fall as my chest does with each breath I take. You can feel my heart beating deep below you beneath my ribs.

"Its ok my precious little one, you're safe here." I say as I feel you starting to relax under my hand "You are loved, and you're going to be ok, I'll keep you safe. I promise. You can rest now. I'll take care of everything."
