Almost home

Through out the day, all any one talked about was the fight between Noah and Darren. Cameron was only a little part of it to most people, and he seemed to fall out of the story as it passed along to everyone. The popular boys like James, Luke, Darren and their friends seemed fine, and only looked worried when a teacher was walking their way, and even more so when their coaches had gone to wish them a happy summer and keep up with their training for next year.

Noah however, loved the attention the story was giving him. He had alway been that way, and he walked with his head high and winking at all girls who looked his way. His friends were the same. Each time I had heard the story, it was different.

"Noah gave Cameron a concussion! Luke took Noah out! Darren can't tryout for for any team next year! The fight was cause Noah flirted with Camerons girl!"

The day went by like always besides the story changing and the fight, but by our last class, we were able to leave early to clean out our lockers and then head home. I was so happy once every thing that had been in my locker was gone. I didn't really keep my locker in the best shape, since I only had so much time between classes and carried my backpack around, so there wasn't much to clean out. Brittany however, was a different situation.

Her lock had multiple shelves, one for books, one for binders, one for hair products, one for makeup products, and one for emergency quick change. She always had to carry these things around and her locker was the best place for her set up. She had only just made a dent in hers when I finished up and was waiting by her locker.

I noticed Max had started to walk over, along with Luke and Josh, another more popular boy. Max put a finger to his lips and smiled at me, sending me the silent message to stay quiet and not say anything. He then ran the last two steps and picked up Brittany from behind spinning her around while I laughed along with his friends behind him. He then put her down and placed a kiss on her cheeks before coming over to me and wrapping me in a tight hug. Brittany joined my laughs as he then let me go and moved to the side to talk to both of us. His friends moved in more with Luke beside me and Josh beside Brittany, but I though I saw Josh sneaking looks at me, but ignored them, until Brittany saw and started sending me small smirks when the boys were busy talking.

After a few minutes, the teachers had started sending out more students to clean their lockers, while we continued to talk. We were mid conversation when two girls, cheerleaders and/or really pretty girls, had joined. One was staring at Luke most of the time while the other was really invested in talking to me about a book we had apparently both read. I was good talking with this girl, whose name I found out was Emily and was new to the school at the start of this year, and she was really kind and had similar taste as I. The bell then went singling our final day of school was over and we started to leave. I quickly grabbed Emilys number to talk over the summer, and then Brittany slipped her arm through mine and we waved good bye to everyone before heading off to find Miles and then head to my house for our annual first summer sleepover.

We walked down to see Miles walking holding his bags of stuff piled up in his locker. He was way neater than both Brittany than I, and would always be quick about things, so we were able to leave the school right away and walk to my house. I didn't live far, both of them would get a ride on the bus or with other friends near where they lived.

We headed out side to the courtyard that was filled with students saying goodbye to each other and seniors they knew, and making sure they had everything before leaving the school for the summer.

After getting a little away from the school, Brittany spent no time going into everything that happened while Miles wasn't with us.

"And Josh was giving our Kit kat looks. I think he might have a small crush on our girl."

Miles whipped his head around to look at me and just as he opened his mouth to make a comment, I voice yelled out from behind us.

"Hey Katie, Wait up!"

We turned around to see none other than Josh running towards us with Luke and one of the cheerleaders walking behind him. He ran up to me and stopped right in front. Brittany and Miles quickly moved back and I was by myself in front of Josh, while probably blushing since a boy had never called out my name and came running to me before. He took a breath to steady himself from running and then straighten up and looked me in the eyes.

"Katie. I know it's the first day of summer, and I should have done this earlier, but I've liked you for a while now, and was wondering if you wanted to go out with me? Its totally fine if you refuse, but I just want to let you know."

I stood there speechless not knowing what to say. I had never been asked out before and now one of the popular boys at my school was asking me out. I looked out of the corner of my eyes to see Brittany and Miles showing thumbs up and sending me smiles while looking between Josh and me. I finally turned back to Josh not knowing what to say, but saw he was nervous too and I relaxed a bit. Josh seemed to notice this because he did the same and I opened my mouth to speak.

I had always though Josh was really nice and good looking, and I decided why not give dating him a chance.

"I'd love to. But I'm going away for the first two weeks of summer so well have to go out when I get back."

Josh let out a breath and then showed a big smiled. I smiled back as he whipped out his phone and we gave each other our numbers. Luke and the cheerleader girl has started to go back to drive home since they had their own cars, or Luke did at least and the girl was just getting a ride, and in a second Josh had leaned down and placed a soft kiss on my cheek, bringing a bright pink blush to the surface. He then smiled at me before turning and running after his friends saying bye.

I turned around with the blush covering my face, to see Brittany and Miles smiling with tearing eyes and started acting all dramatic again.

"That was sooooo cute!!!"

"He was so sweet to you!"

I laughed as I covered my face with my hands. They looped their arms through mine and smiled while talking about what happened while we continued to walk home. I started to feel more and more confident about me going out with Josh. I smiled to myself as we continued to talk and walk almost to my house.

"Are you going to tell Carlos?"

The smile on my face slipped the slightest at the mention of my younger brother. I shrugged my shoulders.

"As long as I hangout with him most of the summer and he likes Josh, then it'll be fine. I don't even know if anything will work out between Josh and I."

I loved my younger brother but I always wanted his opinion on things. He was only seven years old with an almost 10 year difference between the two of us, but he was the sweetest and cutest boy in the world. We were super close with and both Brittany and Miles loved him like a brother as well. He hung out with us a lot when my dad died and the kids never know what to talk about or invited him over worried they would make him sad since he didn't have a dad, so he spent most of his time with us. My mom would try to set up playdates with the kids of her friends, but they never worked out.

We had reached my house and the summer vacation hit me. I was no longer a junior student and next school year, I would be senior and going through my last year of high school and then leave for college. I then realized I had to spend lots of time with Carlos since I was planing to go to NYU with Brittany for university and would be leaving him, not being able to spend time with him every weekend and most only on holidays.

I really had to make this summer count, and now with Josh, I really had to balance this summer perfectly...
