I was watching T.V again with Carlos with a plate of waffles on my lap with no-one in sight since Mom and Ben had gone to a coffee shop down town and wanted some quiet time from Carlos and I. The show we were watching was boring and the cartoon didn't have any cool adventures or anything and I really wanted to get our of the house. I hadn't been to the beach with Carlos, just the two of us for a day and the idea popped up into my head.
"Hey Carlos, I have a great idea."
Carlos turned his attention from the T.V as I turned to him.
"How about we have a beach day? We haven't had one when it was just us and we usually have multiple with just us from other trips."
Carlos lit up at my question and nodded his head shutting off the T.V. He then ran up the stairs and started to change into his swimsuit while I headed into the kitchen and packed us a picnic to take. Carlos finished changing and came down in a tray shirt with his watermelon printed blue swim shorts. He went into the small pantry and grabbed some of his favourite snacks while I went to my room and changed into the new light pink bikini I bought with Emily before coming and then through on a white oversized shirt with black shorts. I then got downstairs to see Carlos putting four drinks into the cooler bag and then we both slipped on our flip-flops and then we were out the back door and down through the path and on our way to the beach leaving a note to tell mom and Ben where we went.
We got to the beach and placed down our towels before setting up the umbrella we Brough for shade. I sat down and made sure Carlos had his sunscreen on before he went away to play in the waves. I pulled off my shirt and shorts before following him to the ocean.
The water was cool but helped my burning feet from the sand. There were about five other familles close to where we were but Carlos and I didn't care as when swam in the water. I wouldn't let us go to deep and we kept close to the beach. We swam for about 40 minutes before getting out and heading back to our small set up. I grabbed some snacks and we ate and then Carlos grabbed the sand castle stuff and started building. I took out the book I brought and started reading while he was working on making the best sandcastle.
It was about 30 minutes when I heard someone coming over. I lowered my book thinking about looking up and seeing my mom and/or Ben, but instead I saw a boy walking over who looked around my age or a year older. He got to the umbrella and smiled at me. His pearly white teeth showed off his smile matched with blond hair, deep brown eyes and a good build. Definitely a beach boy.
"Hey! I'm David. I was with my friends over there and saw you reading and though I should come over."
"Oh, well, Im Katie. Nice to meet you."
I smiled back at him and his lifted even more.
"I was wondering if you wanted to come over and hang out with us?"
I turned and looked over at Carlos who was busy looking at his sandcastle and was admiring his work. I couldn't leave him could I? This was a sibling hangout.
"I don't think I can. I have my younger brother Carlos to look after."
David just smiled even more before responding.
"No worries. I have a little sister that can hang out with him. She looks around his age, she's 8. Then those two can play if you come hang with me and my friends."
I called Carlos over and told him David proposal and he wasted no time in answering.
"You should go hang out with kids your age instead of having your nose in a book. Plus, I get a free friend out of it!"
I laughed as he used his professional voice and Davids echoed mine. He had a nice laugh that matched his personality. I put my book back in my bag as I got up and brushed the sand from my legs before following David and Carlos down the beach a bit to a small group of people. There were two other boys and two other girls along with a little girl playing with a sandcastle that she made. David took Carlos and I over to the little girl first.
"Danny?"
The girl looked up and smiled at David.
"David! Where did you go?"
I smiled as she did showing how she was missing a tooth, but that didn't stop her from smiling.
"I saw these people and decided to invite them over. Meet Katie and Carlos, he's the a year younger than you. Guys, this is Daniella, Danny, my sister."
Danny smiled and moved her hand to shake Carlos's, when I noticed the shade of pink on his cheeks. Did Carlos have his first crush! I was going to tease him all day now! Danny then just gave me a hug and I gladly hugged her back. Then I told Carlos not to go too far and then David pulled me away to the other kids. We walked over and they stopped playing volleyball when David called out.
"Hey guys! This is Katie. Katie meet Mark, John, Mel, and Karley."
Karley was the first to run over and give me a big hug. Mel waved as Mark and John did a what's up. After finding out David, Karley, and John were my age and Mel and Marc were one year older, we split into two teams for volleyball, boys against girls. While playing I was glad to talk lots and in the end got closest to Karley who was a total girly girl, and won volleyball against the boys. After cheering, we all ran to the ocean and jumped in. I looked back to see Carlos was fine and playing in the shade with Danny, and went back to talking to everyone.
After about three hours we had gone back over to Carlos and Danny and made a hug sandcastle with them then ate. I found myself really enjoying the day. The sun was just about to go down meaning it had to be around 4, when I decided it was time for Carlos and I to head back. I was about to grab him when David asked if we could talk. I nodded and we walked over to where my stuff was still set up and he help me put it all away while asking how long I was going to be here for. David was from the little village and knew so much I never would have found out. It then went quiet as we finished packing, when David spoke up.
"So Katie, do you have a boyfriend back home? You really seem to great to not have one."
I laughed. I had basically been ignored by most boys, but there was still Josh, and even though we hadn't really started dating, I was still hopeful about it.
"Not really, there's just this one boy who asked me out on the last day of school, but I don't think we really close to boyfriend girlfriend right now. Why?"
David went quiet as if he was thinking about some thing, then did something unexpected. He quickly lead down and was just about to press his lips to mine when I moved back out of shock. I could see it in his eyes that he felt hurt, but didn't say anything. I looked at the ground and then heard Danny and Carlos starting to walk over.
"Sorry. I shouldn't have done that. You're just such a nice and pretty girl. I would still like to hangout again if you want. If it's too weird for you, then don't worry. But here's my number."
David handed me a small piece of paper and I took it. I may not like David in that certain way, but I still wanted to be friends, and still felt bad about what had happened.
"Im sorry. I just, the boy from my school and, not really knowing you. I would still like to hangout tho."
I looked down and just glanced up enough to see David smile at me. I guess he go over that fast, but it didn't hurt me. I was glad. He said goodbye as Carlos and Danny reached us and then we left. I guess this beach day didn't go the main way I wanted, but still, I enjoyed it. Even with all that drama. But before I could relax again back at the beach house, I turned to Carlos as we continued to walk.
"So, how was your time with Danny?!"
I heard him groan and I knew he knew where this was going. I smiled as he tried to hide his blush. I now could tease him for the entire trip, I was not going to waste that chance...
