When my mom and I got back to the house, I thought Madison was gone since their were lights off in the house she said she lived in, but when mom opened the trunk to get the bags, she came out and waved. I smiled as she ran over and introduced herself to my mom.
"Hello Mrs., I'm Madison and I live just two houses down. I was talking with Katie and when I saw you with all those bags, I wanted to help."
"Oh thank you Madison. That would really help this go faster."
In no time, Madison, mom and I had gotten all twelve bags into the kitchen and unpacked.
"How about you stay for lunch Madison, unless your parents want you back?"
Madison looked over at me like she was asking if it was okay with me, and I smiled wanting to hangout with Madison more.
"I'd love to Mrs. Liddell."
My mom smiled and we started to prepare lunch, burgers, when Carlos and Ben walked in from the front door. They must have been out riding bikes and headed into town or by the beach. Carlos ran over and hugged mom before running over and starting to explain his day so far and what he wanted to do. I loved how he acted when we came down to the beach, like he was a little toddler again.
It wasn't till after he finished explaining, that he turned his head to the other side of the counter to see Madison smiling watching he rattle in about his time.
"Who are you?"
"I'm your sisters friend, Madison. What about you little man?"
"I'm Carlos. I thought the only friends my sister had were Brittany, Miles, and her new friend. But I can't really remember her name."
I laughed at Carlos as he tried to remember Emily's name before he gave up and asked mom. want was for lunch. I took Madison up to my room knowing it was going to be about 25 minutes before we would have lunch. I took her up to my room and she sat on the end of my bed with me on the small beanbag chair by her. She looked around my room and smiled.
"Your room is so cute and pretty!"
I smiled and she got up and started looking around.
"So, going into your final year of high school huh? You really got to make it count, you get one and before you know it, it'll be done."
"I guess. I've never really been the girl who goes out and is popular. Most just ordinary."
"Well, Katie. I think you could be awesome. What do you usually like to do at school?"
I smiled before going over and opening my suitcase to reveal four canvases, pains and brushes. Madison smiled as I showed her some of the art I brought along as well.
"That's so cool! I bet you take three art classes. You totally match art girl vibes."
We started laughing and Madison talked more about her experience in her final year of high school. She loved volleyball and was appointed one of the best on her team. She was also kinda popular too, but I think more than she told me. I was really amazed by Madison. She might have been older, but your wouldn't even know. Suddenly she stopped talking and tipped her head to look at me.
"I just got an amazing idea!"
I stared at her and I could feel the excitement and worry clouding my face.
"What kind of idea?"
"Well, it being your final year of high school and I think you could easily become known and popular at your school, why not try? You could really make your senior year one to remember. And I help you over the time you're here and we can call to check in!"
This was never an idea that I had thought of, and I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. I never really wanted to be popular and like were I was, but with Madison talking more about it and how she really though I could put it off, maybe then I could make my senior year more then I hoped.
"Maybe. We can see what happens while I'm here and you can work your so called magic, but if I don't want to continue, then its done."
Madison smiled and threw her arms around me. Based off her personality, you would think she was a senior or junior herself. I just really hoped that I didn't get myself into one big mistake. But I didn't have time to rethink the idea as mom called both Madison and I down so we could all eat lunch together and then maybe think about going to the beach. Madison and I headed down and sat at the table as Carlos ran over and sat. Mom then brought out the toppings and Ben got the burgers. We were all eating and finishing up when Madison spoke up.
"Do you think that I could spend time with Katie tomorrow? There's a new mall that's a 20 minute drive I think we should go to."
I saw my mother smile knowing she was happy about me being able to hang out with someone other than her and Carlos this summer, and she easily said yes. As I finished eating, my mind wondered back to what I had said to Madison. Did I really want to try and be noticed more in my final year of school when I was almost free? But I didn't want to spend it just studying like I would usually do.
I guess that means Madison was going to help me make my senior year of high school really shine...
