One month after the zombie apocalypse.
A man sat, looking out his window. Outside he could see the city; a place far away from the villages. It was being rebuilt fairly quickly, although, it hadn't been affected nearly as much as the villages due to it being farther away.
He sighed.
Just then, the door behind him opened.
"Yer house is pretty weird." A new voice said. "Have you ever considered building a cabin? Livin' in the woods? I totally recommend it."
"Sometimes."
"I thought you were all for hating everything man-made, and humanity as a whole. Why don't ya come live with me? I've got plenty of room in my cabin."
"As much as I want to, I can't. I need to make sure my lab is safe in my hands, and my hands only."
"Eh, whatever. Were you broodin' just now?"
"No. I was just thinking of my disappointment; I had hoped the zombies would have won against humanity; destroyed them, as they deserved. But I guess not."
"Yeah, that really sucks. I've only seen a few roamin' about the forest every now and then, and significantly less people around, so I settled on the idea that most people had died."
"It's confusing," The man continued to ramble. "Humans are destructive, stupid, and selfish creatures. They hardly have brains in their head to tell them to relish this planet and its resources; to treat it well, use it wisely, and share it all fairly - they can't do something so easy and simple, and yet when a challenging threat comes up, suddenly they're unstoppable? It's ridiculous. I can't let this continue on, you know. I have to do something; to try again at what I failed to do last time."
His companion gasped in excitement. "You mean, you're going ta bring em back?"
"Indeed. I'll make them better, stronger. I've underestimated humanity's ability to overcome things in this past, so I need to be more practical this time."
"I knew this day would come! I've been waitin' for it ever since it first ended. I just knew you would try again sometime - so whenever I'd see people come near my cabin, I warn em very vaguely about it. In fact, during this whole apocalypse thing, I met a talking turtle that stood on two legs and this savage stravin' guy with a red hoodie. I saved the turtle's life, and when they left, I warned him as well as offered him a place at my cabin when everything came crashin' down again. He'd survive regardless, and his friend would definitely die, so I might as well have done."
"You and me see eye-to-eye on humanity as a whole. But compared to me, you're rather selfless, Grandpa Charles."
"Thanks, bud. When are ya gonna get started?"
"Today." The man stood up. "I already have a prototype prepared, but I'm doubtful of its abilities. I've added tracking so it can hunt down specific targets, but I'm not sure if that will improve its skills. I assume this won't take long, as I have the ability to make as many copies of said prototype, but only one will having a tracking ability - there's only one person in particular I need dead."
"Who might that be?"
"There's no need to reveal that now; you'll find out soon. In fact, I already have his information encrypted into the tracking system. Once I finish everything; which will take a while, then we'll see if I can manage to do what I've always wanted to do - destroy humanity once and for all."
"Can I see yer lab?" Grandpa Charles asked.
"Sure. I might as well get started now. When it's ready, I'll pay a small visit to the city. They'll be overjoyed to see their friends again..."
