Josette tried her best to stay away from Kane during the day.
At night it wasn't so simple. He'd find her no matter what she was doing.
"What the hell are you doing up there?" Kane asked when he found her up a tree, "You know I can climb them, too, right?"
Josette shrugged, "It's my tree—go find your own."
Kane smirked and made his way to the branch Josette was sitting on.
"What's so exciting up here?"
"Your absence."
"That's low," Kane chuckled, "I know you don't hate me so don't pretend to."
Josette sighed, "I don't hate you, Kane. I'm just enjoying my own company."
"Why?"
"Because it helps me think."
"About what?"
"Pushing you out of this tree."
"Did I do something wrong?"
Josette glanced up at him, "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be rude. It's just that I am so tired and I wish we were home."
Kane—not one to stick around where he wasn't wanted—nodded and took the hint.
"No, Kane.." Josette reached out for him as he began to descend the tree, "I don't mean.."
Kane waved at her as if to stop her from continuing her plea. He would just go find Maribel.
"He's going to go find her," Josette scowled, "That's fine...that's perfectly fine.."
Kane walked around the caravan for a while, picking up some booze along the way. He found Maribel and settled in next to her on the blanket she'd spread out to soak up the sun.
"Hey, beautiful.." Kane smiled, "Do you mind..?"
Maribel perked up, "Of course not! I would love to have you join me!"
"Are you having a good time?" Kane asked her, "I mean, considering you've gotta travel with a bunch of hoodlums."
"Oh, I don't mind at all," Maribel said, "You're not a hoodlum. You're just misunderstood."
He internally laughed at that. Josette would have called him on his bullshit and forced him to own up to his chaos that he relished in.
"So, you been in the coven long?"
"Yes, I was born into it," Maribel said, twirling her blonde hair, "My family is still in the coven. They're waiting in the Light Forest for us."
"So, what about Josette's family?"
"What family? Her parents are gone and she's an only child," Maribel said, "Why are we talking about her? We could use our time doing something else."
"Like what?" Kane smirked, "You got some ideas?"
Maribel got on her knees and pull her shirt up and over her head, tossing it to the ground. Her large, perky breasts begging Kane to suckle them.
"Very nice," Kane said, leaning into Maribel and grabbing her by the waist, and lowering her to the ground. Settling himself between her thighs, Kane leaned his head down and lapped at her hard nipples, taking one in his mouth and then the other as Maribel moaned underneath him. Her fingers speared his hair, pulling him deeper into her.
"Besides, Josette doesn't know the first thing about pleasing a man.."
"What?"
"What...what? I don't mean to speak ill of her, but what does she know? She's so inexperienced in this area."
"She..." Kane pulled away, "She told me.."
Maribel smiled, "She told you what? That she's had relations with a man before? Yes, once when she was 15. I wouldn't call it much considering the both of them didn't last too long from what I hear! He was from another coven and left shortly after. I don't think she ever heard from him again. You've got to know how to satisfy a man to keep him."
Kane frowned. Maribel certainly had a mouth on her.
A throat clearing startled both of them and they looked up to see Josette standing there with Keira and Frances.
Maribel covered her chest and Kane stood up quickly, eyeing Josette.
"Your men are causing a scene. Some fairies are trying to stroll passed and they keep swatting at them," Josette said, "I suggest you do your job as Alpha and keep them in line. Maribel, come with us, please so we can make sure these fairies get passed the feral dogs that we're traveling with."
Maribel reddened, but she grabbed her shirt and rushed off to help her sisters with the fairies. Keira and Frances stood a few feet back when Josette and Kane walked side by side in front of them.
"We need to talk," Kane said, "You should have told me..should have said something about needing to take it slow..."
Josette sighed, "Told you what, Kane? You've no business knowing about my life so what's it to you if I am not experienced in this area?"
"Because I would have done anything to make it special for you," Kane told her, "Maybe not have been so rough..Maybe we could have had more privacy."
Josette turned to him as her blood boiled over.
"My first time was special no matter what she told you. My life isn't a concern of yours. What we have isn't going passed this journey and then we might run into each other once or twice a year—if that! I won't remember your name and you won't remember mine—considering you've clearly moved on to Maribel anyway."
"I haven't.." Kane stopped himself. It was too late. She'd already seen what he was about to do all because she gave him the cold shoulder, "You're right. This won't last between us so let's just have fun now. I don't see any fault in what we're doing, little dove."
Josette shook her head and walked away, Keira and Frances scurrying behind her, trying their best not to eavesdrop.
"You can have your fun, Chaos, I'm going home."
Kane growled, "You don't get to do this back and forth, Josette!"
Josette stopped and turned to him, "What back and forth?"
"Letting me have my way with you then get all mad when I find pleasure elsewhere. You've been screaming my name for three days now so don't deny that you like it—and don't pretend like nothing else is going to happen between us because you know it will."
Josette's eyes filled with tears before she turned back to the caravan.
She couldn't be with Chaos Dempsey and she needed whatever was happening between them to end before someone got hurt.
