Kane's Little Dove

Kane carried Josette to a nearby wagon and laid her gently in the back of it on top of some blankets.

"I need some water,light food ,and extra clothes," he said to Cecil, "Hurry!"

He looked Josette over, carefully opening her blouse and tugging her out of it gently.

"What the fuck happened to you? Dear gods, what did they do to you, my little dove?"

He whispered to her as Josette stayed passed out. He didn't want to wake her up if she was in pain, but he could tell she'd been through hell and there was no telling how long she'd suffered.

"She looks like she's been run through by, -" Cecil began, but Ned nudged him as they watched Kane slowly begin to take off her clothing.

Ned motioned for Cecil to follow him a few feet away as to respect Josette.

Kane gently cleaned his little dove, taking extra care of deep cuts and wounds and private areas that were swollen.

"I need the salve," he told Cecil, "Don't you dare fucking look at her!"

Kane tended to Josette, putting his extra clothes on her even though they swallowed her whole.

"I'm taking her to my carriage," Kane said to his pack, "Keep an eye on everything and each other. We're heading out at dawn. "

He covered her with a few blankets, trying to make sense of what was going on. Was her village sacked? Were her sisters alright?

He poked his head out and called for Ned who made his way over.

"Any idea what we should do, boss?"

Kane sighed, "I'm not putting my people in harm's way, but keep an eye deep within the forest. Once I find out what's happened, I'll convene."

Ned nodded, "Will do. Those marks look like satyr claws, nymphs.."

Kane peered back at Josette,"She's got fang marks on her neck and they're not from me."

"I'll keep an eye out, " Ned told him,"Get her talking."

Kane nodded and sat back in the carriage, holding Josette's head in his lap, running his fingers over her lips.

"Josette... "

Kane watched as his pack came back from scoping out the forest.

"Anything?" Cecil asked as he checked on Josette.

"No," Kane said, "I think whatever she came across did more than beat her."

Suddenly, Josette began to rouse and Ned, Cecil and a few other wolves peered into the carriage.

"Little dove.. "

"K-Kane... ?" Josette trembled in his hold, "I-Is it you?"

"It's me, baby.. it's me.. What happened? Can you tell me that?"

Josette sobbed as she told him how she'd been excommunicated for a time from the village, her powers lost until her punishment was over.

"It's my fault... " Kane shook his head, angrily, "I never should have let you."

Josette smiled, "It was me. I knew it was wrong, but I don't blame you. I needed you... I.. I just wanted you.. "

She drifted in and out for a few minutes until sitting up and talking to Kane a little about what happened to her the last two days in the forest.

"I was ambushed.. I felt like someone was after me!"

"Bet it was that bitch, Maribel," Kane snarled,"Did... they... ?"

"Don't make me tell you... " Josette's tears flowed freely as Kane handed her some water,"I can't even tell you what happened or who it was.. "

Kane's blood boiled as he watched Josette settle back in the seat.

"Rest, little dove. We're going to take you to my den, OK?"

Josette nodded, "OK.. Thank you, Kane. "

Kane waited for her to sleep before exiting the carriage and going to his pack.

"After I kill that whore, I'm going to find out who hurt her, " Kane said to his crew.

"She fought tooth and nail to get to you, man, " Cecil said.

Kane nodded,"I know... she shouldn't have, though. She almost got herself killed. "

Ned smiled,"As horrible as it is, she still did because there's clearly something there for you... maybe something even she doesn't understand. "

Cecil put his hand on Kane's shoulder,"I've got everything under control. You get back to her.. she needs you."

Kane made his way back to the carriage after making sure everything was sorted out at the camp.

Josette was sitting up now with her back against the other door.

"I didn't realize how big you are until I had to wear your clothes," she grinned,"I appreciate everything. "

"I never want this to happen to you again, Josette. Why did you come to me? Why didn't you stay where it was safe? "

"I don't know... " Josette shrugged,"No, that's not true at all. I trust you, Kane. I wanted to be with you. I wanted to feel your arms around me and have you tell me everything is going to be alright. "

Kane smiled,"When did you have this revelation?"

Josette sighed,"Maybe I've felt it for a few days, I don't know... I'm not good at any of this. I just feel safe with you and... happy. "

"I make you happy?"

Josette smiled, her eyes glossing over with tears,"Yeah, you make me happy even though you're wild and untamed. I... I.. "

Kane moved closer to her and pulled her into his arms.

"You what, Josette? Tell me.. " he pleaded, half knowing what she wanted to see, but needing to hear it from her lips.

"I love you, Kane.. "

Kane's heart fluttered as he held her close to him and kissed her forehead, softly, his mind racing at this whole new chapter opening up for both of them.

"Oh, gods.. I love you so much more, little dove..."
