chapter thirteen

haerin pov:

while dani unnie and me are walking along the streets of downtown seoul, i feel really alive, free and maybe even happy, happy to be spending one on one time with nielle unnie here, who's, by the way, been smiling and laughing since quite a while now, walking in front of me as she skips along the sidewalk, dangerously close to the road, where lots of cars are driving.

so i walk towards her, having to sprint slightly as i take her by her waist, away from the road,
"dani unnie, be careful, i don't want you dead because of the cars..", i tell on her teasingly, but also meaning it as dani unnie unmovingly giggles sweetly.

"thank you, hae, i wouldn't have noticed how close i was walking to the road if it wasn't for you, my savior", nielle unnie replies, still smiling brightly, making me fall even harder for her.

once i realise that i'm still holding onto her waist, i awkwardly let go of it, making danielle unnie stumble forwards, our lips almost touching as i put my hands around her waist once more,
shit, i wanna kiss her.

"rin..",dani unnie mutters out, her voice weak and all squeaky, uh oh what did i put us into..
i mean, i can't say i don't like it but- "haerin!",danielle unnie calls out to me again, my arms being moved from around her waist as dani unnie towers over me slightly, like, by a centimeter.

"sorry dani unnie, i just-",i shake off my thoughts, get to your point, kang haerin, stupid kang haerin. "you felt flustered?.. me too",dani unnie perfectly looks through me, so i nod my head, a smile on dani unnie's face, how much more must she torture my poor heart???

after a while of us just staring into each other's eyes, nielle unnie laughs sweetly, patting me on the back as i crack a smile as well, quickly turning into laughing with danielle unnie, oh what i would do to hear dani unnie's laughter 24/7.

now, we're walking along the sidewalk once more, danielle unnie having made a few more jokes and told stories about us when we were smaller, which, i of course still remember vividly, how could i ever forget any memory with my dear sunshine??

so naturally, danielle unnie excited rambling on about baby haerin crying because baby dani had to leave for australia, for like only a week, i begin talking with her, making both of us elicit into joyful laughter, i love this girl so much.

however, as it starts raining, dani unnie suddenly walks in front of me, going back to skipping along the sidewalk  like a puppy, so i take out my phone and take a video of danielle unnie happily skipping along the sidewalk, quietly giggling to myself as danielle unnie looks back, a huge smile painted on her face, reminds me of bbangeul (her puppy).

3rd person pov:

then, after danielle finishes skipping along the sidewalk, haerin having catched up to the puppy-like girl now, they reach a cross walk, to which danielle happily quickens her pace once more, restraining herself from skipping over the cross walk, not noticing the car approaching her with a quick speed.

"dani unnie!! watch out!!!",haerin calls out to the older girl, who doesn't seem to hear or notice her surroundings, the car driving up to her with a rapid pace, and when haerin tries to catch up to the australian-korean girl, it's already too late.

*sound of car crashing, heavy rain falling onto the concrete*

once the gruesome scene unfolds, blood seeping under the car as it hit danielle with a way too high speed, haerin lets out a scream, not believing what just happened as tears start streaming down her face, or maybe they're rain drops but the seventeen year old just wants to wake up, notice that it's just a dream, just like last time.

a while later, an ambulance arrives at the scene, haerin having been pulled over by a police officer, being too shaken up to answer any questions from the officer, tears not seeming to be able to stop as the rain stops, minji, hanni, hyein, hyein's parents and danielle's parents having arrived at the scene now as the three best friends comfort the shaken up haerin.

"she's gonna be okay, haerin unnie, danielle unnie is strong, we all know that",the youngest among them reassures haerin, hoping that was she said is true, all of them crying together as they hug each other, forming a little circle,
trying their bests to stay strong, to stay positive.
