chapter fourteen

haerin pov:

right now, we're in the hospital, hoping the best for danielle unnie as i can't believe that just under an hour i was laughing with dani unnie, walking with her along the streets of seoul, talking to her, admiring her smile.. and now she's suddenly nowhere to be seen, i hope that the doctors can save her, i just can't imagine my life without my sunshine.

i mean, just imagine it; you and your best friend since like your whole life are walking along the streets, laughing at people and other stuff that comes into your minds and suddenly the one and only ray of sunshine in your life gets into a car crash, i was, and still am to be honest scared for my whole life.

what if dani unnie didn't survive? what if she won't wake up, what if she's gone forever?? i tear up unwillingly as i know no matter what happens dani unnie hates to see me cry, she'd talk with someone about it not being okay to make someone cry, even if that person who was crying wasn't me, dani unnie always chose justice and fairness.

"haerin.. it's okay, dani will be okay, just believe in the doctors, believe in her, kitty kang",hanni unnie comforts me, to which i just start sobbing, i know that dani unnie can do it, but the what-ifs keep popping up in my head, even if i know how strong dani unnie is.

as hanni unnie comforts me by rubbing my back comfortingly, minji unnie hugs my side tightly, her eyes also puffy and red from all the crying as so are hanni's, along with her parents, who are holding onto each other in an attempt to distract each other from the possible outcomes of this night.

3rd person pov:

about half an hour later, it being 11:23 pm by now, a doctor comes out of the emergency room that danielle has been in for a little under two hours, everyone's gazes turning hopeful as they look into the doctor's direction.

"are you danielle marsh's family and close relatives?",the doctor confirms, everyone nodding hopefully, "i have good news and bad news",he then continues, the whole room silent with awaiting.

"we managed to save ms. marsh, but sadly she's in a coma, we don't know for how long.. her family may go into her room first",the doctor announces, audible breaths of relief being heard throughout the room as haerin begins sobbing with contentment.

after a while of the marsh family 'reuniting' with their youngest family member, they come out of danielle's room, her mom sniffing contently as her dad and sister comfort her, the four best friends quietly going into danielle's room.

"hi dani unnie, i'm so happy that you're well, please wake up soon", haerin begins as she sits down on danielle's bed's edge, the other three smiling at the interaction as haerin lightly hugs the older girl, just happy that she's (almost) unharmed and wishing for her to wake up soon.

*about a month later, haerin having waited hand on foot on danielle whenever she had the time to, almost never leaving her childhood best friend's side*

as haerin is, again, spending her free time in danielle's hospital room, her homework spread onto the small table that the room is equipped with, as there's a good view outside overlooking downtown seoul, it being pretty dark outside now.

haerin has been at the hospital ever since she ended school so it's been about two hours now, not thinking of leaving soon. once the cat-eyed girl quickly looks at danielle, still laying on her hospital bed unmovingly as there are about a dozen of cables attached to her body along with a tube to keep her heart beat steady as the monitor shows the eighteen year old girl's heart frequency.

averting her attention towards her homework sheet once more, haerin sighs deeply, she's still first in every subject of her classes, along with her electives as she decided to take fine arts and foreign language class as well, this homework being her last one for today as it's english, bringing haerin back to the day she called danielle over for "help" with an english assignment, actually just seeking the older one's company.

after about an hour now, the clock striking a quarter to go before 7 pm, meaning the end of visiting hours, haerin closes her english book, stuffing her homework and school stuff back into her backpack.

the seventeen year old walks over to danielle's hospital bed, where she lightly touches the latter's cheek, still warm and all soft as so goes her heart, wanting to cry by the sight of her beloved best friend, but still having hope for her to wake up soon, since it's only been a month since the accident.

a while later, haerin having spent this time talking to the unresponsive danielle, updating her about her life and about how much she misses her, she stands up from sitting on the edge of danielle's hospital bed, to which danielle slowly opens her eyes, the younger one of them not having noticed danielle's hand twitching as she weakly calls out to the latter, who's opened the door to leave already.

"hae.. don't leave me", she weakly cries out, trying to sit up but to no avail, her body being far too frail from the accident. as haerin hears the soft voice calling out to her, she immediately begins tearing up, bursting into tears just a few second later as she closes the door, immediately turning around to hug the older girl.

as haerin carefully, but also tightly hugs danielle, who just smiles with tears in her eyes, a nurse goes to inform haerin that visiting hours are over, a gasp from the nurse breaking the two best friend's embrace, the cat-eyed girl walking over to the nurse with tears in her eyes and a huge smile on her face.

while the nurse calls for a doctor, haerin explains what happened to another nurse, not forgetting to call danielle's family and their friends to inform them of what happened, everyone having arrived in no time (even though visiting hours ended a bit ago).

a while later, as the doctor confirmed that everything is indeed okay with danielle, including her memory, if she can walk on her own, if her heart beat is steady enough, the doctor decided to let danielle stay in the hospital for another three days just in case something happens, but calling danielle a miracle either way as everyone feels so happy to have the puppy-like girl back, this being especially heavy on haerin, who's so glad to have her sunshine back.
