Charlie was finally sleeping. Gally stayed beside her the whole time, he finally convinced her to let one nurse come close enough to check her. She was the nurse who Gally meet with each week. She ushered everyone out of the room, except Gally, to give her some privacy. Nurse Connie was an older lady, she had soft green eyes and a gentle smile.
She explained what she was doing the whole time. Charlie freaked out the moment she suggested blood work. It took a long time to bring her down from the panic attack. Gally's heart broke watching the fear take over. Connie added some sleeping pills to the tea she made Charlie drink. The poor girl needed proper sleep and food and rest. Connie insisted she stay in the Med Wing, but allowed a quiet room at the end of the hall. Gally refused to leave. He tried to gently run his hand through her hair but she flinched and whimpered.
"Sorry. I'll stop." He whispered.
"It...it just..hurts." She said as her eyes fluttered closed, "Don't leave me!" She whispered, the sleeping pills took over. Her breathing evened out and for the first time her body relaxed.
There was a quiet knock on the door. Zayn poked his head in, and then indicated for Gally to follow. Gally was reluctant to leave, he didn't want to. The struggle obviously showed.
"Just outside the door, man." Zayn whispered.
Gally sighed and got up, sliding his hand from her grip, and followed him into the hall. Standing in the hall was a small group of people. Sophie, Zayn, Magnus, John, Connie and Dr. Hans and Sarg.
"Okay. We need to know what's going on." Sarg demanded, "And can we not have this meeting in my office?"
"No." Magnus and Gally said together.
"I'm not leaving, you want the meeting fine, have it without me." Gally said as he went to turn back towards the door.
"Fine. Here in the hallway it is." Sarg groaned.
"Okay. Source." He turned towards Magnus, his eyes narrowed, like he was pissed off, "We put a lot on the line for you. We were told there was information. Instead you show up with a half dead tortured child."
Gally could feel his anger bubbling to the surface. Zayn must have noticed, he laid a hand on his arm. Magnus however kept his cool, and looked at Sarg with such an intense stare the Sarg shrunk ever so slightly.
"That half dead girl, is Janson's niece-"
"And Thomas is her brother! Shuck! Janson is their uncle!" Gally muttered.
Magnus nodded.
"They found her bleeding out, took her and patched her up, speed up her recovery. I wasn't directly involved at the time, there was a different Captain at the time. They started using a different...technique to try find a cure. Thy are determined the cure is going to be found in the brains of the Immunes." Magnus explained, his voice was deep and it rumbled in the hall.
"Because that's where the disease takes root. In the brain, eating away at anything and everything in your humanity." Hans nodded.
"Yes. But it's ben how many years and nothing new. Janson and his team of twisted doctors and scientists came up with a new way to test the brain patters in high stress situations. Cheaper than the Maze. He called it the Fear Landscape. They injected her with some kind of poison serum that triggers the fear part of her brain. She hallucinated her worst fears. That cuffed her to the chair every day for six months. Sometimes it would be new fears, most times it repeated. They would collect the hormone that was produced."
"Okay, that's a wonderful sob story, what's the point and why did I risk my men for her. For you?"
"Sarg? Shut up." Zayn snapped.
