Gally
Zayn was right. After a long hot shower, some actual food. With a sad sinking feeling he ate thinking how much better Frypan's slop had been. Especially on the days when Charlie would pitch in. But it was actual food. His appetite had decreased since his injury, but food helped boost his mood. Zayn then showed him around the building. It was an old warehouse at the edge of the Scorch. Gally had to take a few breaks, leaning on the wall, trying to catch his breath.
Zayn was quiet, patiently waiting for Gally to catch his breath. He would answer the questions Gally had, but didn't engage in small talk. Which Gally was thankful for. For one it was hard to catch his breath, he didn't have any extra air to spare. And another thing, he was still emotionally feeling very empty and exhausted. He was glad Zayn had kicked Sophie out. She was fine, he didn't have a problem with her most times. But right now he didn't want to be around such a talkative bubbly person. He preferred Zayn's quiet presence right now.
Gally was introduced to a few different people, all excited to finally meet the "Munnie Kid" Gally forced a thin lipped smile, clenching his jaw until Zayn would shoo them away.
"Come on. I'll show you the best spot."
Gally just nodded. Zayn lead him through to the back of the building on their way he told Gally to wait for moment. Gally just leaned against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest.
"Penny for your thoughts?"
Gally flinched, he didn't hear anyone approach, but he jerked his head up, his eyes wide. His hopes went up, his heart started to beat faster, it sounded just like her! He pushed off the wall, and turned to the voice, meeting blue eyes. His hopes came crashing down. He visibly shrunk, sinking back into the wall. They weren't bright crystal blue. They weren't Charlie's. He looked away, blinking back the angry hopeless tears.
Much to his annoyance Sophie came and leaned against the wall be side him. She shoved her hands into her pockets, looking at the ground. Gally could feel his muscles tensing.
"I'm sorry."
Gally froze, he was scared to move. People didn't usually apologies to him. He didn't say anything, waiting for what was going to happen, or what she was going to say next.
"I'm sorry...Gally. I didn't...know-"
"How could you?" He asked bitterly.
"Still. Wasn't expecting that. You must have loved her a lot." Sophie said quietly.
Gally just nodded. His heart was aching, just like his lung, his whole chest was in pain. He did, he loved her so much, and he wished he could tell her one last time, wished he could have held her while she died.
"I won't bug you about it. You're like Zee. He doesn't talk much either."
"I noticed, why we get along." Gally grunted.
Sophie just hummed.
"Except Zee doesn't hold it in. Holding onto pain isn't healthy...trust me. That I understand. I understand pain."
"Seriously, have you two talked to Newt? Cuz the shuck is going on?" Gally muttered, rolling his eyes.
"Who's Newt?" She asked cautiously.
Gally was quiet for a moment, thinkin it over. Finally he answered quietly, "The guy I would say was my best friend in the Glade- other than...than Charlie."
Gally took a shuddering breath. He felt a hand on his arm, and a gentle squeeze. He finally picked his head up, and looked around. Sophie had pushed off the wall and turned towards him, her eyes looking up at him, they were full of sadness and a genuine concern, and something else he couldn't figure out.
