Katie POV
I'm currently pacing my living room the next morning, waiting for my mom to come back from the store. I figure I should tell her about the job asap that way if she doesn't approve, I can cancel the meeting tomorrow with HR.I talked with Leah on the phone about it last night and she was really excited for me. She actually got me pretty hype when she looked up all who model for The Row. There's very famous models with extensive backgrounds and the photographers linked to The Row are fabulous. I can't wait to see how they work, and how their minds work.
The front door shuts silently and my mother plops some grocery bags on the floor while carrying the majority to the kitchen. I quickly grab the grocery bags that she dropped and bring them to the kitchen behind her.
She still hasn't said a word to me since she destroyed my black room. She left that day and didn't come home until late and then left early this morning. I've also been avoiding her so I guess I'm partly to blame but I'm a little scared of her. I never know how she's going to react to anything I say or do.
"M-mom can I talk to you?" I hesitantly ask as her back into me while she puts some fresh produce away in the fridge.
"What is it Kathleen." She spits. Ugh I hate that name.
"I thought you'd like to know I got a job. Well it's an internship, for a fashion company in the city."
She turns around hastily and has an excited look on her face.
"A fashion company? Which one? What will you be working at?" She asks
"The Row. I'll be in Marketing and advertising." I say with out stuttering, remembering and going off what the twins said. "It's something to keep me busy and will be great to transition into for college. Perhaps I will like business" I nervously explain, lying my ass off.
"I'm actually surprised you went out and got a job. I guess I was wrong about that. When do you start?" She asks. "Do you need anything?"
"I have a meeting tomorrow so I assume I'll need my social security card and I can use my drivers license for anything else right?" I ask not really knowing how this works.
"I guess so." She says. I forgot, she hasn't worked since I was born. My front door slams shut and my mother and I both turn around to see Leah standing there with a sheepish smile on her face.
"Hello Leah. Did you hear your friend got a job?" My mother says to Leah and they share a look I haven't seen before. Sort of like they are making fun of me in their head to each her and I quirk an eyebrow at them. What the fuck.
"I did! I'm super happy for her! She's going to do so well and excel in the program! Maybe they will offer her a full time position at the end of the summer!" Leah rambles making me think I'm just picturing what's going on in front of me. Maybe I'm just reading it wrong.
"Can you get a job there too? That way I'll have eyes inside!" My mother laughs with Leah and Leah jokes about setting up a secret camera inside for me. I love the Leah can joke around with my mom but she doesn't even joke with me...
Without any more questionsLeah and I leave my mom in the kitchen and head into my room, so I can confront her.
"Leah since when did you become BFFs with my mom?" I ask
"Oh shush wouldn't you rather her be calling me than you?"
"Calling you? How often do you talk to her? What??" I ask confused. Since when do they talk on the phone! What do they even talk about?
"Enough questions for me. I have questions for you!" Leah says in a teasing voice which makes me even more confused.
"A little birdie told me Becca and Jake had an explosive fight at the party last night and she dumped him." Leah says
