He mingled with the crowds while he watched her.

God she looked good. He managed to hide himself in an alleyway diagonal from her shop with a niche he could hide in where he was not visible to her.

He knew what time she opened, when she took a break and what time she closed up. Keeping his distance he even found her address.

He did this for three days. On the fourth she went skiing with three others. He watched them by travelling up and down on the ski lift.

She was a great skier. What he didn't like was the way the one guy kept touching her. He wanted to rip his face off.

Tomorrow.

Tomorrow he would make his move, he just didn't know how. He stood on the balcony of his room looking out.

He could understand why she chose this place. It's beautiful. The scenery was majestic and it was far enough away from him she wouldn't have to worry.

Did she hate him so much? He knocked back the scotch in his hand, the burning sensation running down his throat.

Next day he hid again in the alleyway. She kept coming out the door and looking around. His heart raced. Could she feel him near? He held his breath. Her eyes looked straight towards him but luckily two people stopped talking in front of him blocking her view.

Later he saw the last of her customers leave and he moved forward. Pushing the door open she had her back to him.

"Sorry I'm just closi..." she turned. "Jacob." She whispered.

"Hello schmetterling."

He was there standing in front of her.

God he was more gorgeous than ever. His eyes bore into hers, his cheeks flushed from the cold.

"Hello schmetterling."

She dropped onto the closest chair.

"Why... What... How?" She couldn't get the questions out. The words never made it from her brain to her mouth.

He walked towards her, taking a seat on the other side of the table.

"It's lovely to see you too." Came out sarkily from his mouth. He pulled his fur covered hat off.

Looking around he said,

"Switzerland. You wanted to get away from me so badly. Was my kiss or being in my arms that disgusting?" His voice was as cold as the snow falling outside.

The tears began to fill her eyes. She fought to stop them from falling.

How could he think that?

"What do you want?" She whispered.

"If you had read my messages, answered my calls for the past year I wouldn't be here." He spat. "I need answers, Alexis. I don't believe what you told me that night in the coffee house. There has to be more than what you said."

"Did Deana tell you I was here?"

"Does it matter? I'm here..." He sighed. "No she didn't, a friend noticed you and told me."

She looked down at her hands. Why didn't he believe her?

"Well??"

She looked at him. His eyes had darkened and become angry.

"Well?" He raised his voice.

"How dare you. How dare you march in here all holier than thou and demand answers." She stood up leaning on the table. "What I said was the only reason. Our lives were going in different directions. What have you been doing for the past year? How much time have you spent in Berlin and while you were there what did you do, relax or work?"

He looked at her.

"Exactly. Let me tell you shall I. You were there a few days here and there. Long enough to change the clothes in your suitcase and get your next itinerary. When would you have had time for us?"

Recognition covered his face.

"That's right... None. Who would be the one to be left hurt? Left sitting there wondering if they would get to be given the chance to see you? Just to say hello." A long pause. "Me."

A sob escaped her and he stood.

"Don't." Her hand raised to halt him. "I left for my self preservation. To stop my heart from being ripped to shreds. Guess what? It didn't work. My own fault. Looking at tik tok and insta. Girls draped all over you everywhere you go. Fun being had with everyone while I struggled to find somewhere I thought I would never walk into you." She sighed and laughed.

"Go home Jacob, go back to your exciting life and let me get on with mine."

He stood and walked out the shop. She dropped back onto the chair and sobbed.
