He sat waiting. He was a bit early, well if you could call an hour a little early. He paced the room. The front door was locked with a sign saying closed due to family emergency on it and the shop blinds were closed.
Every little noise made him jump. Expecting it to be her.
His stomach tightened. Looking at the clock it was almost 8.
The door to the kitchen opened and she walked in.
He stumbled to his feet as she walked towards him, he held out a red rose. His heart raced a mile a minute.
"Hello Jacob." She sat taking the rose from him.
"Thanks for coming." He mumbled, sweat trickling down his back.
"We need to put things in order. Or to get closure."
"No, no closure. We have got a future Alexis. Please see that." He thumped the table. "Plus how can we have closure on something that hasn't even opened."
She jumped to the force of his fist hitting the table and swallowed hard.
"Sorry. I didn't mean... I need you Alexis. I've always needed you."
"No you haven't Jacob. Three kisses don't make us a couple."
She whispered.
He sat back.
"You've still got a long way to go in your career. You don't need me hanging on dragging you back."
"But Angelina and Julien..."
"They've been together since the start. They are in the same business so they can travel together." She sighed. "I love you too Jacob, I love you enough to let you go. Let you spread your wings, find your niche." Silent tears trickled down her face.
He sat forward and reached a hand out for hers. Tentatively she lay one in it.
"I love you Alexis. I want no one else. I'm busy for the next 4 months. Then I've time off. I'm going to come for you." His thumb brushed her knuckles. "Look at me."
Her blue eyes shone with the tears crowding to be released. His Hazel eyes were the same.
"I want you." His voice broke. "I want you beside me. I want you in my life. Then when it's time I want you to wear my ring, to carry my children. I want to grow old with you. I'll always be yours."
She wiped her eyes with the sleeve of her jumper as he stood and walked around the table to her.
Pulling her to her feet he placed two fingers under her chin and tipped her face up to his.
"Promise me one thing. Give it 4 months. Then if once we meet up again you feel there is no future for us I will walk away."
She nodded and he took her lips with his.
"Come on, I'll take you home."
He led her back out the back and helped her into his car. They drove for a while and he pulled over.
She looked at her dad's front door.
"4 months Alexis. Same place, same time." He leant forward and kissed her deep and longingly. "I love you."
"I love you too." She got out and watched him drive away.
She stood silently looking towards where his car went.
Lifting the rose to her nose she sniffed. Would 4 months make a difference? She had a few ideas that could work in their favour but they were risky and she didn't know if they could be worked on.
A light broke from her father's doorway.
"Are you coming in or standing there all night?" her father asked.
"I'm coming dad. You got the kettle on?"
She walked inside her head on her ideas for the next few months.
