- CHAPTER SEVENTEEN -
dancing on my own - calum scottlando could still remember the first time he met lia. it was around 2010 and a kartmasters race. in between some of the stages, and a couple of the drivers, including him and george were running around, probably creating havoc for the poor workers and parents.
george had to go up to ask him mom for some money so they could go get food during the break, lando following him, not wanting to lose his new friend in the hectic crowd. he eventually found his mother and sister.
"hey mom!" george called out as they ran up. the two girls turned around.
"ah there you are! you're doing so well sweetie!" the mother gushed over her son but lando wasn't listening. he was looking at the girl who stood next to the woman, looking at her brother smiling.
she was clearly a few years younger than her brother but maybe only one or two years younger than lando. she had long brown hair and freckles that were dotted softly around her nose and cheeks and she looked at everything around her in awe, clearly interested in it all. she was wearing a race suit, signalling to lando that she must've taken part in the girls race earlier that morning. and she was pretty, she was really pretty.
she looked to the boy, causing him to slightly panic as he realised he had been staring at her. she smiled at him before looking back to her brother as he talked about his race.
"oh yeah, this is lando." george said, looking between the boy and his family. "he's from bristol."
"hi." lando said awkwardly, waving his hand slightly.
"this is my mom and my sister, dahlia." george introduced them.
dahlia. it immediately became landos favourite name. he thought it suited her perfectly, she was beautiful like the flower.
"it's lovely to meet you, lando. you must've traveled a while then. it takes time and dedication, doesn't it?" mrs russell spoke to him, but landos main focus was still on the girl who was smiling shyly at him, looking away as soon as they made eye contact.
"umm yeah. i'm gonna be a formula one driver some day so it'll be worth it." lando said, partly in hopes to impress the girl but partly because he believed it.
the woman let out a small chuckle, "well aren't you confident! i suppose you have to be in this field. anyway, i'll let you boys get back to it." she smiled, handing her son some cash. "get some food now for you and your friend and don't waste this! it was lovely meeting you lando, i hope we see more of you in the future."
"yeah yeah, me too." lando smiled and nodded to them as the two young teenage boys walked back out towards the food stalls.

(chapter one)
it was the first race of the season and lando was feeling the nerves, the pressure. he could barely sit still all day. he had a brand new teammate, oscar, who already seemed to get on well with him and everyone was saying that this will be a season to remember for the whole sport.
during the break between fp3 and quali, when he didn't have a meeting he went to the cafe to get a drink. as lando walked up, he saw a familiar girl standing and ordering her drink, recognising her from the back alone. lando smiled as he approached her.
"one coffee and a tea please." she ordered and the barista turned back to the machines.
"two drinks? does lia have a date?" lando joked, but also wanted to know if his guess was right or not. the girl spun around, a grin on her face as she realised it was him.
