"Minna!" Cat shouted.
Minna was slow to get up and Cat came charging into the room when she took too long.
"Come on! We're going out."
Minna groaned.
"Don't forget to change into that dress!" Laila called. "It's not casual!"
She rolled out of bed and gently pulled the black dress off the hanger. It was beautiful—to her, at least—with off the shoulder sleeves, sheer ruffles on the neckline and sleeves, a fitted top, and a three-quarter circle skirt.
"Minna?" Jeremy called.
"Coming!" she yelled.
She buckled her shoes and rushed out, greeting her friends and stealing Laila's coffee.
"Alright, designated driver," Cat said. "Don't get drunk."
"Don't have any drinks," Laila corrected. "I don't want you to lose judgement at all."
"I know how it works," Minna said grouchily. "Let's go. I'm hungry."
Jeremy wrapped his arm around her shoulder with a grin as they started walking to the elevator.
"Everyone thinks you two are dating," Cat said casually.
Minna stopped in her tracks. "What?"
Laila pulled her along.
"That's what I heard!" Cat defended. "It makes sense, Jeremy's always hugging you and shit."
"Not dating," Minna sighed.
Laila pressed the ground floor button. "We know. Most people don't, though."
Minna wedged her foot between the doors before they closed. Kayla and Ethan entered the elevator.
"Thanks," Ethan said.
Minna nodded curtly.
"Where are you guys going?" Jeremy asked curiously.
Kayla brushed it off. "Just out."
Ethan pulled her to his side and Minna glanced at her friends. Laila shrugged.
Cat flashed them a grin. "Back together?"
Ethan's cheeks went red. "Stop it."
Minna smiled lightly as the elevator stopped. The two groups went separate ways—Ethan and Kayla to his bike, the other four to Laila's car. As they buckled in, all four watched the couple go off. Minna crossed her fingers that nothing might happen to them.
Laila started to pull out of the parking lot. Cat chattered away, keeping Jeremy occupied from worrying too much as Minna slouched against her seat and stared out the window. In her headphones was a true crime documentary as she waited for Kevin to call her. He did, eventually. Minna was still talking to him when they arrived at their restaurant. She flicked her fingers, telling them to go without her.
"I'm so sorry it took me so long," Kevin said. "I just got busy stressing and—"
"I hear the seating got rearranged," Minna interrupted.
Kevin sighed. "Yeah. It did. Listen, about what Riko did..."
"Kevin," Minna said lowly. "Not now."
"Then when?"
"Not for a while."
"You need to tell someone."
"I told you."
"I can't help you, Minna. Tell someone who can."
"I'll talk to you later," Minna said evasively. Before Kevin could reply, Minna hung up. And then she went inside, because she couldn't stand to wallow in her misery. Laila and Cat were laughing and Jeremy was grinning. Minna painted a smile on her face and walked over.
