Y/N Emerald woke up with the sun brightly shining into her face. She heard some commotion and she heard some kid saying "It says, 'Please don't feed the animals." Then I heard a deeper masculine voice saying "They're kids, like you and me." The girl that originally spoke said "They're not like me! They're district. That's why they belong in a cage!" The other voice said "Once again, like me," the voice continued saying "Coriolanus, do you think you could get your tributes to come over? Besides if they do some others may also come. They must be starving." Y/N Emerald looked at Lucy Gray and whispered in Lucy Gray's ear "C'mon Lulu we might get food." The mention of food instantly woke Lucy Gray from her trance of washing her hands and dress in the faucet and when Y/n pointed at Coriolanus with another boy who looked his age Lucy Gray smiled widely. Y/n Emerald heard Coriolanus whisper something to the other boy and that other kid immediately nodded at Corn. Then Coriolanus got 3 sandwiches and 3 plums and walked to the back of the monkey house where there was a sleek rock perfect for sitting. We were sitting down when Corn came along and sat with the sandwiches and plums. Then we said in sync "Are those sandwiches for anybody?" We laughed at each other and even Coriolanus let out a small chuckle and replied saying, "Just for you guys." Lucy Gray tucked her feet under her skirt and gratefully accepted a sandwich, while Y/n was a bit more skeptical about it. She took a look at it and examined the contents making sure it wasn't dosed with poison inside then took a small nibble on the crust. Lucy Gray did the same hoping her sandwich wasn't poisoned, but she also found it safe and took a nibble at it. Y/n bit her lip and pinched herself wondering if this was even true, since this was the best sandwich ever even the bakery owned by the stubborn, rude, and old lady back in the seam didn't hold a candle to this delicious piece of art in her mouth. Y/n then blurted out "This is so damn fucking good Snow. Who's your friend that brought it?" Corn looked a bit confused and taken aback by her language, but said "My friend Sejanus Plinth and he's not really my friend..... He's originally from District 2 though." Y/n just shrugged and said "Does it matter if he brings such good fucking food?" Lucy Gray looked at her scandalized because Y/N Emerald the girl who seemed so pure had said something as bad as fuck. Coriolanus also looked shocked, but a bit less bothered. When they heard an very annoying and teasing noise all their ears perked up. The district 4 guy was talking about something and was being really loud. Snow said "Maybe you guys should sing for food?" Y/n shrugged and Lucy Gray looked a bit interested. Then while Y/n was eating her sandwich Coriolanus and Lucy Gray finished their conversation and once Corn was less than 20 paces away Lucy sang out the first note.

Then Y/n's ears perked up from the song and sang out the next lyrics.

Lucy Gray then continued singing in a mellow tone.
Go write me a letter, send it by mail.
Bake it and stamp it to the Capitol jail. Capitol jail, love, to the Capitol jail.
Then they sang the last few lyrics together in a sadder and more lost tone.

After the song Y/n took a huff of air, and then put on a beaming smile with Lucy Gray she could see Lucy looking at Coriolanus hoping for him to give a nod of approval. Coriolanus looked deep in thought. "Hey Lucy Gray maybe we should sing more often the crowd looks like they like it." Y/n said.
Then the boy who gave out the sandwiches said "Thanks for stepping up." Then she heard Coriolanus clear his throat and say "It was nothing." The sandwich boy pointed out "I doubt any of our other classmates would've helped me." While Coriolanus was having a conversation with sandwich boy. She distantly heard the words from sandwich boy "I want you to have him! And I'll take Lucy Gray and Y/n Emerald. It will still be horrible, but at least I don't know them. I know the crowd likes them as the singing duo or some people calling them star-crossed lovers, but what good will that do her in the arena? There's no way they'll beat Marcus. Trade tributes with me. Win the Games. Take the glory. Please, Coriolanus, I would never forget the flavor."
Coriolanus seriously was considering the offer which didn't surprise Y/n since Marcus was a fit and strong boy. "Sorry, my friend," Coriolanus said mildly. "But I think I'll keep them."
