It's rather simple. That brother character in 0.3 was our "canon event" and everything went downhill from there. Such as the exploitation of their AU thanks to Error, which Ink somehow saved them. But they are the only survivor, deeming them an anomaly who can travel. It has been like this for at least 5 years or less.

So, basically, both [Name] and Cross are the duo that punched Ink (well deserved).

ANYWAYS, [Name] and Cross encounter Geno and another pacifist timeline Sans. The two other skeletons are weirdly chill as the other Undertale cast show up, surprised that another version of sans appeared alongside a new version of this timeline's [Name]. As for that timeline's [Name], they are still a younger version of Wanderer! [Name]. And the two share an awkward interaction. And Toriel being herself offered chocolate to the two, curtesy of both humans.

Time skips to where Cross and [Name] explain more about themselves. The rest of the Undertale cast are really intrigued and suprised but something isn't right. Cross knows that Ink is there. . . but [Name] doesn't because they are still not as strong compared to a royal guard. After they bid farewell to the Undertale cast while Sans and Geno stay, the two confront Ink about the whole situation while giving him a couple of punches.

Then after Geno talks to somebody in a non-polite manner, XGaster is prepared to take Cross, and possibly Ink and [Name] as well, back. but the Fatal thing occurs, and they are all taken to another timeline, leaving both Geno and the other timeline Sans (multishipper unlocked/hj).

As they are now stuck in an empty void, Cross and [Name] makes existential questions and then shit goes down fr. Fatal shows up and wants to fucking beat them all up as the three of them each struggle. With [Name] being human, THAT MAKES SHIT MUCH WORSE FOR THEM. As the three of them fight, shit goes further down and [Name] does get caught by the string at first but were quickly freed by Ink (since he knows that they're human, the injuries may be worse).

So as Cross builds this big ass bone wall to protect them all, Fatal manages to get in and remove Ink and [Name] of the picture by force, which involves [Name] getting more injured by Fatal's strings since THAT CAN BREAK BONES, THAT CAN PIERCE THROUGH THEM AND IT HURTS LIKE HELL, TRUST ME. I DON'T RECOMMEND IT. So, now the strings are piercing through their skin, and it hurts like hell, but Ink frees them again and smacks Fatal as he was about to hurt Cross again.

Then it doesn't work and XGaster ends up hurting Fatal and Cross at the same time, lmao. As Ink and [Name] go to him, shit goes even further as Cross disappears and goes back to XGaster, leaving them alone.

Back in the Main Timeline, Cross is back as both XChara and X[Name] notice him and idk, you imagine smth.

And Ink and [Name] manage to arrive just in time before nobody else can really enter the main timeline. Ink tries to help [Name] recover but he can't just paint new skin, it only works for clothes (I think). But he tries. After a communication with Core and Dream, Ink gets a plan and drags [Name].

The two encounter Sans, with him still having harsh feelings towards Ink while still maintaining his friendliness to [Name] but it isn't too happy that they are back with working with Ink. Once Ink admits that he needs one final thing and then he would leave him be, [Name] also offers for them to completely begone from his sight as well for the mutual understanding that they're kind of chill with Ink, despite not fully forgiving him (or not at all, it'll take time).
