Gina's POV
"I'm so happy you're here."

"I am too." He laid his head on my shoulder, allowing my fingers to run through those dark, curly locks of his.

"So...how's school?"

"Oh, I love it. Complete different ball game than high school. The way stuff rolls there just makes a lot more sense to me." I nodded, showing him he was heard.

Like, not just heard like my ears work, but heard, like he was understood.

It was no secret that Ricky Bowen had some struggles in school. He wasn't dumb and it wasn't that he just didn't do work.
I mean, sometimes that was the case, but not always.

A lot of the time, he just took longer to process, or needed some extra help, or to be taught in different ways.

There are different kinds of learners, you know!?

Sometimes he just needed his teachers and peers to see him and what he was going through.

Teens lives aren't just the easy, smooth ride people tend to think they are, but mine's improved tremendously thanks to this boy right here.

Two years ago, it absolutely sucked. And it's crazy to think I've only known Ricky, all these people for two years.

"And how are you, my love?" He asked, lifting my chin with his fingers, kissing me lightly on the lips.

"Never better. If I see you today, does that mean no Friday, Saturday, and Sunday?" I asked him, my smile fading.

"Of course not. This is just a bonus. Once we both adjust back to school, hopefully we can see each other even more days."

"Okay. I hope so." I laid back on his shoulder now, feeling his hands dance their way around my waist.

Except it wasn't my waist. It was lower. And his hands landed right on my lap against my stomach, causing a blush.

"You're cute."

"You're cuter." I told him.

"How's Elphie?" I asked. Ricky's apartment allowed dogs, so I let him take our little dog over there with him. Hopefully we'll get a more permanent home for all three, or more, of us soon enough.

Even if it's me with him.

"He's great. Misses his Mama."

"I miss him too. How's work at the shelter. It's only been a few days, and there's already so much to catch up on." I laughed, realizing how much time we spent together before.

There really was never a time we didn't know what was going on. And if one of us didn't tell the other what was going on, often when something's wrong, we would at least know something was up.

"Work's great. Met this kid Dakota. He goes to school with me. He's awesome, huge fan of yours."

"Yeah? That's nice."

"Falling asleep on my already?" He teased me.

"Nope. I will...not." I yawned.

"Rick!" I noticed Big Red waving him over.

"Come with me?" Ricky asked.
