Gina's POV
Excuse me?

My cousin?

That girl who interviewed me for Romeo and Juliet all that time ago is my cousin? I mean...I guess my dad was White, so his sibling could have a kid named Ri...

Rehearsal ends, and I have a promise to uphold for Nini. I make my way to the cafe, reminding myself that I can't make it about me.

Nini's POV
"Hey, Gi, how're you?" I ask, hugging my old friend.

"I'm good." She says, smiling strangely.

"You okay?"

"Yeah! Yeah, I'm fantastic. So what's up?" She asks, leading us over to a table.

"I needed some advice on, like, some love life...stuff."

"Nini, the three people you've been bonding with are all great. But it's not fair to them or YOU to be unclear on what's going to happen. You're nineteen now. It's time for you to...make some decisions, that are going to change your life further than ever before. Who do you want?"

"Umm...well...Carter is wonderful. And my biggest fear is losing two of these people as friends if I choose one. Even if they agree to be friends, what if my partner doesn't let me-"

"Then that's not a partner you want."

"Yeah...yeah, you're right. I think I know what I need to do. As an adult, what I really need."

Gina nods, looking down at the table. "That's good. I'm happy for you."

I notice her squeezing her eyes shut, her voice small.

"Gi?"

Suddenly I hear a whimper, and a tear falls onto the table.

"Oh, Gina." I frown, walking to her side of the table. "Let me...let me drive you home. And we can talk in some privacy."

"N-no, umm...bring me- bring me to R-Ricky's please? I g-go there on Fridays."

"Okay. Okay, that's fine."

"I'm sorry, I know it's a longer drive." She says, walking out to my car.

"It's okay. A talk about you is long overdue."

"So what's going on?"

"I...I've been thinking about my...father recently. I got a...text at rehearsal from my apparent cousin who was also my interviewer for Romeo and Juliet. I don't know what to do! She's on my dad's side of the family, and-"

"Hey, hey. Slow down. It's gonna be alright. You've met someone who cares about you. Her being on your dad's side isn't going to make her him. I'm so sorry you've been going through all this alone."

"I'm sorry too..."

"Let's get you to Ricky's."

"Oh. Hey, my Angel. Oh, Sweetheart, what's wrong?" Ricky wraps his arms around her, not sure what's wrong.

And for the first time, it doesn't feel weird to see him holding someone else.
