Chapter 3: Drive

Gina's POV
"Hi, can I sit? Sorry, sorry. I don't have to, it's fine-" A girl I'd never seen approached Ashlyn and I.

She had apparent hazel eyes and brown hair with natural golden highlights, likely from the sunny summer we've just had.

"No, no. Take a seat. I'm Gina, this is Ashlyn."

"Hazel." The girl spoke.

"Okay, Wildcats! Let's begin with some intros. We have a few new students! Come on stage if you hear your name. Hazel and Drew?"

As the two kids walked on stage, I realized Drew had similar features to Hazel, and seemingly similar personalities and stature.

"Hi. I'm Hazel, I'm a senior. I came at the end of first semester last year with my brother."

"Hey. Drew, sophomore. I'm Hazel's brother."

I noticed Emmy in my peripheral vision. Blushing.

"Em?"

"Yeah, uhh, that's the cute boy I met last year. He was gonna do the spring musical, but decided against it, until his sister arrived. She had to finish some...work in Cali."

Hmm...

Ding ding

N: Hey, Gi. Sorry to bother you during auditions, but can I ask you something real quick?

G: Never a bother, what's up?

N: Is there a girl at East named Hazel? I think she's auditioning.

G: Yeah, there's a new girl here today named Hazel, why?

N: Well...she's kind of that girl I was talking too.

G: oh THAT Hazel, I see.

N: I can sense the smirk on your face, Gina. It's nothing serious, but she's a really great friend.

G: She seems nice. And she's very talented.

N: Yeah, she is. Thanks for letting me know she's there!

G: of course!

N: Break a leg!

G: Thank you!

"Let's begin, Thespians!"

Two hours passed, and I collapsed in Maddox's car, completely burnt out. Maddox was driving Ashlyn, Seb, Carlos, herself, and I to Slices.

She left Jet to catch a ride with Emmy, Dani, Hazel, and Drew, who we're trying to befriend.

Jack's driving alone...

Miss Jenn and Mr. Mazzara are driving over the results to the cast list tonight.

Ricky's POV
Drive.

I have to drive.

Then maybe I can get there in time.

But I gotta drive.

Fast.

Gina's POV
We reach the pizza place, choosing seats immediately. We were all eager to eat, today had been a demanding audition day, probably the most demanding ever.

But then again, Miss Jenn doesn't have Nini, Ricky, Korutney, or EJ, so she's a little overwhelmed, I can tell.

"Wildcats, villagers, witches, circus recruits, woodland creatures, and royalty! We announce, your cast."

I look around at our seating arrangement curiously, while also waiting for the cast list to be announced.

At one table sat Jack, Hazel, Emmy, and Drew. Jack and Hazel faced each other, almost glaring at the other.

Was it just a staring contest, or did these two meet before.

Knowing Jack, I wouldn't be surprised. He's moved nearly as much as me, taking it much easier, though.

Dani sat awkwardly at a table with Big Red, who was working today, Seb, and Carlos.

Ashlyn and Maddox sat besides each other, fingers laced together, while I sat across from them in the booth. Alone.

I couldn't want Ricky in more ways right here and now.

"Okay. Our stepmother is...to be determined." Miss Jenn ended in monotone, a tone never heard from her before. "Not enough auditioned for that role yet. Kennidee and Lauryn, you will be...Florinda and Lucinda! Benny- Mr. Mazzara and I will be portraying Cinderella's biological father and mother. Our wolf is...Carlos."

We all gasped, applauding him. He seemed pleased enough, shrugging in acknowledgment.

"Jet, you are Cinderella's prince. Drew you are Rapunzel'sq!" Miss Jenn cheered.

More cheers and applause. They seemed happy, yet also nervous. Especially Drew.

"I didn't think I'd even get a part!"

"Well, Drew, you're worthy of one. Dani, you are our Rapunzel."

Thank God. I wiped nonexistent sweat off my forehead. Rapunzel sings a lot, not speaking. Dani's for the pipes for this role.

Will she rock the hair, though?

"Hazel, you're our Little Red Rising Hood!"

"Really? Wow, thank you!"

"Of course. Seb, you're our beanstalk Jack!"

"My second biggest dream role, thank you Miss Jenn!"

"It's nothing, Sebastian."

"Emmy? Our Cinderella!"

"Really! Thanks!"

"Don't worry about it. And our Baker and Baker's wife..."

"Am I too late? Am I too late!?"

"Ricky?" My voice cracked, seeing the boy if missed so badly. I thought I wouldn't see him for still three days from now.

"Hi, Sweetie." He shrugged, sheepishly approaching me.

Miss Jenn smiled knowingly, as Ricky slid in the empty booth seat beside me, wrapping an arm around my leg.

"Gina, Jack? Our Baker family!"

Ricky smiled at me widely.

"And our Witch....Ashlyn!"

"Congratulations, Sweetheart."

"How'd you get here."

"I just told myself...'Richard, you better drive. And I did."
