Chapter 19: The Last Apple(s)

Ricky's POV
"A lot of our great performers were lost as high schoolers after last year, so we have to give a few of these around." Gina lets out a teary laugh. "Nini." She takes one off the tray, handing it to her.

Nini speaks next. "Another old friend we've got here today actually was a freshman in college already last year, but Eej, come on up."

Gina speaks again as Nini hands him an apple. "And...Ricky Bowen."

I go up, kissing her on the lips gently, gripping her waist.

"Thanks, Gi."

The audience cheers as I dip her gently.

"Who's the last one for?" I hear Emmy scream. Everyone laughs.

"Good question..." Gina says. "Listen, we needed these OGs up here for the main apple..."

Now that I'm on stage, I can see that this final one is fake, with a small opening at the top.

And then Miss Jenn being pulled on by Mr. Mazzara and he's opening it and getting on one knee.

He goes on a rant I never expected he could. "So, Jennifer, I guess what I'm asking is...if you never want to reveal your real last name will you take mine so you can please sound like a legitimate teacher for once?"

Everyone cries out applause as she nods. "Yes!"

"That was...crazy." I say, kissing the side of Gina's head as we slowly exit the school, flowers in her arms.

"It was beautiful." She replies, pecking my lips.

"Hey. Not denying that." I laugh. "And so were you. You're so talented."

"My first without you."

"Yeah. That's true."

"Taking me home, Bowen?"

"If my place is home, then yeah."

Her grin widens. "I don't have any change  of clothes."

"I may have gotten some stuff at mine for you, Love."
