Arc 1: Chapter 8

~Your impression of a girl being in love is the most terrible one I've ever seen~

"Why would you do that?" the girl finally spoke up, looking up at the 6th Harbinger who had his arms behind his head as he leaned against the wall.

"Do what exactly, the list of the things I've done is quite long, kitten." he responded, not even bothering to look at the kitsune beside him.

"Why did you stand in front of me when Yae entered, too? Didn't know you had the need to protect me?"

"Because you're a pathetic, weak-willed individual who's too emotional for their own good." he hissed, leaning closer to her with a smirk playing on his lips. "Even for a kitsune, you are especially easily controlled with a few simple words, and, really, the most amusing part is that you're oblivious to it. You should get used to being led around on a leash, kitten, it suits someone of your character much better."

The girl sent him a sharp glare, rolling her eyes. "Weak willed my ass, more like one of the strongest soldiers in out ranks, Puppet-Boy."

"A strong soldier? Don't make me laugh. You're only a Harbinger because your little toy, Childe, wouldn't have accepted the position otherwise. So how about you stop being so prideful for once and start acting like the little pet you are, kitten?" his voice was laced with venom as he spoke, his eyes scanning the girl's features.

"A pet? Weren't you the one saying I'm the one actually capable of finishing my missions earlier today?" she smirked, leaning back as she listened to what he had to say.

"I have to admit, you might be good at what you do, Lynx, but you need to know your place." he chuckled, obviously doing this to get a rise out of the girl. "Even if you killed hundreds of people, completed thousands of missions, it's nothing to me, or anyone in our ranks to be fair. You certainly would never have left an impression on anyone had it not been for your looks." he leaned back, resting his head on the wall behind him, his eyes still fixated on the girl. "I admit you were born with exceptional beauty, there's not a single Harbinger that even comes close, maybe that's the only reason you're an asset to the organization."

"Well, I'll have you k-" she cut herself off mid sentence when she realised what he had said. "What do you mean my looks are an asset? Exceptional beauty? Not a single Harbinger comes close?" she crossed her arms over her chest, her voice wavering as she spoke, he had obviously struck a nerve.

"Don't go acting like you don't notice people drooling over you like dogs every time you go out in public." he paused for a moment, smiling in satisfaction as he realised the power his words had on her. "And it's no different inside the Harbinger ranks, you're the only Harbinger that could have a harem if they wanted."

"A harem? What even are you talking about?" she hissed, playing dumb, even though she was well aware of the effect she had on people. She had spent years mastering the art of seduction and manipulation and she wasn't afraid to use it to get anything she wanted.

"You can't honestly think I'm the only one who's head you've turned?" he laughed, a playful glint showing itself within his eyes. "Outside of our little office meetings, you have people pining for you and you know it. Even one of your Harbinger 'buddies' has fallen for you. You're not the naive girl you make yourself out to be, you're just a tease. Which is yet another reason I find you so annoying, kitten."

"How am I a tease? I'm not even doing anything. And which one of our harbinger buddies are you talking about? Because if you mean Childe I th-"

"You're damn right I'm talking about Tartaglia." he growled, watching in amusement as the girl furrowed her eyebrows, her eyes almost resembling those of a puppy as she feigned innocence. "I can't even tell whether you're teasing him or yourself at this point. You know he'll fall head over heels for you just because you want attention. You know how easy it is for you to get any man you want and you're even more of a tease because you're aware of it."
