Usually, the library or any library would be a place a person could go for peace, quiet, and maybe even serenity, in a sense.
But in the case of Silas' abandoned—but habituated—underground library, the court seemed to rule quite the opposite based off evidence of three individuals absolutely close or maybe even at insanity's peak with the library and its gifts. Mysterious terrains at the whims of a variety knocking combinations. Vampires. Corvae. Ex-girlfriends. They really had it all, and Carmilla and Laura had put the cherry on top with just one discussion...I think we're all aware how that went.
"Laf, wait!" Laura called out.
They stormed up the stairs, calibrated their knock to go to surface Silas level, and slammed the door behind them as they went through.
Yeah...maybe they should've thought that through. I honestly thought that they would agree on that decision and then try to come up with anything else, because that would be very Laura of Laura and Carmilla of Carmilla to agree with Laura...but I digress, back to my famed role as a narrator.
Now, they sat close to each other—no wait—six feet away from each other after Laura scooched away from Carm—Carmilla—she meant, for space.
Laura told herself that this break up was going very well, but the desk and on webcam sessions would say otherwise, as well as the longing eyes, the mutual feelings, regret...I could go on but then I could go on forever, and I know you want to hear from the actual characters, not some washed up narrator, ha.
I will say this though...during those sessions, Laura would not allow herself to get too close or commit herself to Carmilla...I'll let you all figure out what that means, but continuing, she was scared that Carmilla would just take advantage of her. Not in the extremist way, but in the context that firstly, they weren't in a relationship, secondly, she didn't and wouldn't know if Carmilla would want to get back with her and she wasn't sure herself on how she thought about it, and thirdly, Carmilla was her first love...but maybe there was someone else out there. Maybe her real forever was out there, and if she was, she would want to commit herself to that woman forever, no matter how scared she was for that type of vulnerability or any type of vulnerability, actually. She had barely been vulnerable with Carmilla. What they did was fun, but it was enough to satisfy and enough that it wasn't too far. Enough to remember they were still exes and that's what they would always be...I shouldn't tell you this but, what does the foreshadowed match mean by "always"? She's funny.
Anyways, that was probably more information than you needed to hear, but Laura will probably try to sugarcoat some of it her Laura way, so...you're welcome. And you might ask, "Why is there not a Carmilla paragraph below this?" She'll mostly tell you straight up her thoughts on it, because she treats narrating like a diary in a sense. Even though some things are bound not to be said outright...I mean, hey, that happens with any narrator...even me.
Anyways, before I sign out as your overviewing narrator, there is one thing that needs to be relayed...
"DANNY!" Mother screamed, frustrated that she didn't have the talismans in her grasp already.
Mother had been and was in a race to collect these talismans like they were Eras Tour tickets, and she was mad beyond belief that Carmilla and her little pet actually had a chance to essentially win and defeat her. She needed to win.
Danny came scurrying around the corner of one of the paths of the pit to the "headquarters" of the operation, standing in front of Mother as if she was a soldier answering to his general.
"Yes, Mother?" Danny tried to present herself as best she could. She actually of all people wanted to impress her...pfft.
Mother approached Danny closer. "Do you have anything for me?"
Danny hesitated. She had considered slightly telling her, "Yes! I totally have something that furthers our quest and progress."
But, instead, she told her: "I looked everywhere I could. Nothing."
Mother sighed, flustered.
"I questioned the 18th century computer nerd though. I'm this close to getting something out of him...I'm sure he knows something."
Mother huffed. "Alright, well hurry up and keep looking...we have to beat Mircalla and her little lover...wish there was something we can do about those two meddling brats..."
A light bulb went off in Danny's mind and her face brightened with it.
Mother noticed, and of course, interrogated.
"What is it, child?"
"I just figured out a way to stop them...a way to make sure they never meddle ever again."
"Go on."
Danny continued. "On my way back here, I saw the biology geek storming off to their dorm...seems they were pissed off about something so much so that they didn't care to hide, but I digress, and they're not the issue right now."
"Where is this going?"
"That means Carmilla and Laura are alone in the library."
"And?"
Danny pulls out the Book of Lives from out of her jacket, seemingly magically, that she pocketed off Laf. "With this, we can find a spell to cave them in. Seeing as it's an..."
"...underground library." They both recited.
Mother lightly takes the Book of Lives out of Danny's hands, admiring it.
"Why couldn't have Carmilla been a good girl like you. You are incredible and faithful."
Danny smiled, now with Mother's approval.
"Come on, my child. We have some work to do."
...so yeah...Carmilla and Laura are going to be in for quite the ride...
Anyways, I hope you enjoy it...I'm gonna sign off here before I tell you any spoilers, because I know nobody likes those.
Narrator out...might be back...or not. Who knows?
