1 MONTH LATER.
Lafontaine's POV
JP and I were walking up the stairs hand in hand to Carmilla's apartment. After Laura's death, she pulled away from everyone and everything and decided to move into her Mother's old apartment, since Mother wasn't around to say otherwise and since she was her daughter, she got the ownership pretty easily. Usually, Perry comes with us to check on our ex-vampire, but she's helping Melanie with the restoration of the pit and the rescue of any survivors in there still. Yeah, you'd think that after a month we'd have gotten everyone outta there, but we're really close. Probably by the end of this week, everyone will be out and safe from the pit, receiving the care they need. Also, really unrelated, but if you're curious, yes, JP and I are dating. Ever since the Karnstein-Hollis wedding when he asked me to dance, we've been talking more and more, and eventually, he asked me out on a date. Probably as you'd expect, he's a really proper gentleman, and he's pretty cute and it makes me happy to be with him.
Also yes, Perry's back, and I'm so grateful and happy that she is. That retched god is out of her, and she's her again, and we've been making up lost time and hanging out and everything in general. I love Perr so much. We haven't heard much from Mr. Hollis since the funeral other than he's doing better and getting better. Kirsch is back on the football team and making all the touchdowns and being Kirsch. He still misses Danny, though. Refuses to let go of the thought of her. And Mel, like I said earlier, has been head of the restoration team in the pit, leading the charge. So everything has been improving, even though we miss Laura everyday. We walked down the hallway of Carmilla's floor, and we got to her door and knocked.
No answer.
Knocked again, and surprisingly the door popped slightly open allowing us to push the door open and get in, and immediately, we were met with the smell of reeking alcohol.
"Carmilla?" JP called out.
"Karnstein?" I called out as we walked further in.
We looked in the dining room, and no one and nothing was there but a heap of beer, champagne, wine, and other various alcohol glasses.
We walked further in and looked in the living room, and lo and behold, we saw Carmilla on the couch, vomit on the floor beside her, drinking some sort of wine straight from the bottle.
"Carmilla." I said as she looked up.
"Oh, heyyyy! It's nerdy and more nerdy, hahaha! How's your happy relationship...and...and things." She slurred her words.
"Just fine, but we'd much rather talk about you, Carmilla." JP replied.
She sat up as upright as she could, putting down her glasses, revealing her bloodshot eyes. "Abouuuuttttt me? What's to talk aboutttttt me, hahhaha!"
"Carmilla, you can't keep drinking like this. Your liver can't withstand the same amount of alcohol as when you were a vampire." JP told her.
"You know what, mayyyybbbbeeee that's the point. Yeah." She continued slurring her speech as she took another drink of alcohol. "Annnnd you know what?? I can totallyyyyy withstand this. Wwwwatch me." She said as she put the bottle down, put her fists up, stood up and immediately fell forward, knocking herself out.
Me and JP looked at each other and carried her to the familiar lounge chair near the dining room.
We set her down, letting out a collective sigh.
"God, she's a piece of work...it hurts to see her like this." I told JP as he put a hand on my shoulder.
"It really does...so many years ago when we met it seemed to get better, but when she met Laura every single one of her worries just seemed to wash away and not exist and she seemed actually happy for the first time in...her life actually." JP responded, remembering the Carmilla who was actually happy.
