Young Moon's POV:
Five Years Ago
I happily bounded across the open field, smiling at the sun and the cool breeze. Branch was busy doing gross kissy things with his girlfriend and Cupcake was busy shopping so I had the afternoon to myself. I was going to meet up with my three friends, Sparks the Emolga, Pad the Mudkip, and Swift the Nickit, who I was kind of dating. Reaching the giant tree that sat in the middle of the field I looked around for my friends.
"Hello?" I called looking up the branches of the tree.
"Cowabunga!!!" I heard the familiar voice of my best friend yell.
Soon a small black and white squirrel mon flew down and tackled me to the ground. Laughing we rolled around on the ground before we rested on our backs, still laughing.
"Good to see you." I told Sparks.
"It's better than good, it's GREAT to see you!" She replied. "Branch almost never lets you go anywhere!"
"I know. He's so protective especially since mom and dad left to go do whatever they are doing. He doesn't want me out of his sight. Luckily his girlfriend Crystal is more understanding than he is. I managed to convince her to distract him today so I could come play with you guys." I smiled.
"You have always been so sneaky Moon." Sparks said, also smiling.
I nodded and smiled at the Emolga. I was gonna say something else, but I was stopped by another Pokémon walking up to us.
"Am I late?" Pad asked, nervous as always. His eyes darted every which way, looking for any threats.
"Pad, nothing is going to attack you out here. There aren't even any wild Pokémon out here. You can stop worrying." I told him, laughing.
"A-are you c-c-certain of that?" He asked.
"Yes Pad. Now come over here and join us." Sparks said patting the floor next to her.
Pad nervously sat next to her, still looking around. "Now we just have to wait for Swift." I said.
"He's always late." Sparks said, pulling out blades of grass and playing with them.
"I wonder why." I thought out loud.
Soon Swift came walking across the field, towards the tree. Once h got close enough I saw that his face was sad, almost hurt looking. In all the years I've known him, Swift had never looked like that. Before I had a chance to ask why he looked so hurt, his face turned to happy. It happened so fast I wondered if he had actually looked sad in the first place or if I was just imagining it. He greeted us with a smile on his face and we began playing. First we did tag, then charades (Pad was awful at that game), then we played hide and seek. While I was looking for a place to hide, Swift ran up to me, gave me a quick nuzzle, and said "Follow me. Quickly!"
I blushed a little but followed him towards the nearby forest. Once inside he head me behind some trees and looked behind us to make sure that Pad hadn't seen us. Swift then looked at me and smiled. I knew I was blushing but I didn't really care. I liked him and he knew that, he liked me and I knew that. That was how our relationship worked.
"Hey Moon?" He said.
"Yeah?"
"Want to kiss?"
I blushed but nodded. We continued to look into each other's eyes. As we did I noticed something I hadn't noticed about him before. His face was full of joy and happiness, but deep, deep in his eyes, I could see something else. I could see great pain, fear, and even anger. He smiled at me again and I forgot what I saw in his eyes. Or, I tried to.
