Chapter Thirty Nine - Blindsided

-3rd Person-

After Rose left, he and Russell agreed to work together to get Rose on side, but that went haywire after the Archibald's informed Chuck that should Russell convince Rose to sign he was going to break up the company anyway.

"Obviously we need to tell Rose." Nate shrugged

"Rose cannot know about this, if she thinks for one second that he's more untrustworthy, not only will she not sign to Thorpe but she will never sign to anyone else and we need to do what right for the business. If Thorpe is lying I need to find out why and see if I can fix it. If I can't I need to give her another option."

"Chuck, If Rose finds out you've been keeping secrets again she'll flip."

"You don't think I know that?" Chuck retorted "We both want the same thing the only difference is she's more aggressive and narrow-minded. No I will sort this, thank you for informing me though."

That night he tried to get to the bottom of why Thorpe was so personally set on destroying Bass Industries. He had 24 hours to turn everything around.

The next day Dan and I met up with Eric for a proper talk seen as yesterday things took over.

"Hey, thanks for meeting me." Eric stated as he brought us schnitzels 

"I'm surprised Dad and Lily let you out of the house again." Dan replied

"Well it might have something to do with my volunteering or voluntary drug testing. The schnitzels are on me. I'm sorry about lying last week."

"Thanks, have you heard from Damien" I ask

"No, knowing the ambassador, after you told him Damien was dealing I'm sure he was exiled to some very cold, distant country. You know who else i haven't heard from though, is Jonathan. See I knew he probably didn't want to talk to me again but I at least thought he'd return my call and tell me."

"Well, leaving a message isn't very romantic." Dan told him "Have you thought about doing something big for him. Show how much you wanna see him?"

"Like what?"

"Oh, invite him to Chuck's event tonight." I suggest

"I'm not going to Chuck's event tonight. I have a date with a vehicle full of hot meals. I'd feel feel sorry for myself, except I'm delivering food to people too sick to cook."

"At least it would be original." Dan shrugged

"Jonathan was never one for cliche's." Eric replied

"So make the play, man. Go out in a blue of glory or at least a double parked panel van." We chuckled and continued on.

"So, apart from being the amazing husband you are, you're also stalking my best friend?" I say getting dressed in the closet.

"I am, because she's the new Epperly, besides the weird thing is that since the wedding we're actually not at each others throat constantly." he replied

"Well I'm glad, despite our numerous and various arguments and battles with each other she's my best friend, I'm happy that at least those two parts of my world aren't so flammable anymore." I came out just as he was doing his tie

"Wow, just wow."

"If you think this is wow, just wait until later. Come here." I started to do his tie

"You know I've been doing my own ties for years now."

"I can always stop."

"No, Nope. Just making a comment." My phone rang it was Bruce.

"Bruce? I'm just on my way out."

"I'm sorry to be the one to inform you of this Mrs Humphrey but you and the other Mrs Humphrey are being accused of an ethic violation and a conflict of interest. There has been an emergency board meeting. You and Lily have been removed from the board, effective immediately "

"What! By Whom?"

"Your brother, Charles Bass." My eyes snap towards Dan's in fury.

"Thank you for telling me." I hung up and turn to my husband "I am going to kill my brother."

"Do you need my help."

"No, I'm calling Mom apparently he's crossed both of us" I grabbed my phone and dialled mom

"Rosalie I was just about to call you."

"Did you get the same call to? Chuck icing us both out?" I ask

"Yes I did, which means he can go through with the sale without needing you. i'm heading to the party now."

"We're right behind you." Dan handed me my coat and we both left. When we arrived I turned to Dan.

"You go hunt Blair and I will find either my brother or Mom."

"Okay, be careful." we kissed and split up. Mom had already texted me that she was here. ten minutes into looking Dan texted

Found Chuck upstairs.

I gathered my dress and headed upstairs. Dan was waiting for me, he pointed to the end of the hall.

"Thank you, sweetheart. How do I look?"

"Vindictive, I also messaged Lily, so if your gonna be pissed do it quick."

"Okay." I stormed over and pushed opened the double doors

"Rosie what the..."

"There is my traitor brother, oh look the hag is here as well. I presumed you put him up to this? Never mind I will deal with you later." I slapped Chuck.

"At what point were you going to tell me that you had your own sister and adoptive mother fired from the company?"

"Lily should have told me about her relationship with Russell. And you shouldn't be so stubborn."

"How about a conversation, with either of us? Did that ever cross your mind. What is going on with Mom and I has nothing to do with our performance of Bass industries."

"Rosalie." Mom arrived

"Mom, I was just having a conversation with my brother about his reason for betrayal. Care to join."

"It's not the first time either of your emotions have clouded your judgement." my jaw dropped

"We both know that Rose you're journalist not a corporate business woman. Lily, you're a socialite. You traded musicians for titans of industry. Upgraded from a tour bus to a corporate jet. I'm sorry but I had to."

"We've done nothing but try to salvage and help the company. I stepped in so Jack wouldn't take it away and everyday since, I have fought for both your futures. Rosalie saved your hotel when you went missing. If the three of us had stuck together on this we would have won."

"Now you've lost you two only allies. As of today, I no longer see you as my brother. And I'm safe in the knowledge to know that if Dad were here, he would have been beyond disappointed in you." I walked out and didn't look back
