TW: ATTEMPTED SUICIDE, DEPICTION OF SELF-HARM
Includes: Kai angst, and comfort
(Another dark story guys, I'm sorry, I promise I'll give you something sweet next)

Dead silence surrounded Kai and he couldn't tell whether that was because his mind had tuned everything else out, or if it really was that quiet. His vision blurred in and out, he couldn't quite get anything to stay in focus. Lying on his bathroom floor, things seemed so peaceful.

Even though he had just tried to drown himself.

Soaking the bathmat, his drenched body attempted to sit him up, although he didn't feel in control of himself. He heard a muffled something and thought maybe he had tried to say something without even realising it. Kai sighed and leaned against the bathtub, letting the edge stab into the back of his head. It made him feel something, more than just the heavy feeling in his heart and the sharpness in his lungs.

He heard the muffled voice again, and realised it definitely wasn't his own. A thought panged into his head. Are... are the others back already? The first coherent thought he had had in the last hour tore his heart apart. If his friends saw him like this...

Kai scrambled to his feet but the sudden motion made his head spin and he crashed into the wall, knocking over a plant pot. It smashed against the floor, cracking the tile underneath. Kai edged his eyes open and saw the cracked tile. His mind flashed the image of the cracked tile underneath his mum's favourite tea set on the floor outside the blacksmith shop. He caught his breath and found he couldn't breathe again.

"Kai?" The voice came clearer this time and it came with the sound of footsteps. Kai panicked and ducked down behind the sink, which only made the memory of finding his parents missing stronger. Tears welled in his eyes and all of his emotions throughout the night came out. He stifled a sob into his soaked sleeve but it was still too loud. The door opened and he covered his face, hoping that whoever it was wouldn't notice him. He heard a gasp.

"What the hell..."

"What?" Kai heard more footsteps and the door creak and hit the wall. The sound of more gasps came.

"Holy shit, why— why is the water bloody?" Kai caught another breath as he remembered his wrists. He'd stopped feeling the pain when his chest felt like exploding, but at the mention of the bloodied water, a sting came up his arm. He felt the silence tighten.

"Uh— Kai...?" Kai noticed the sound of his friends moving and panicked. They really couldn't see him like this.

"No! Stop! Don't— don't come in!" Kai squished himself into the corner between the sink and the wall to better hide his pathetic self. Tension grew again and he could tell his friends were confused and concerned.

"Is... is everything ok, Kai? Why— why is the water... bloody?" He heard Lloyd's voice and it only made his heart hurt worse. He and Nya of all people couldn't know. Not his little siblings.

"I— It was— from— from a fight... I was washing off..." Kai spoke in the best voice he could manage but he wasn't sure when his sniffling or hiccoughing would reveal him.

"Oh— Uh, oops, sorry, did we just walk in on you getting out then?" The awkwardness built up the longer Kai stayed silent, but Kai had to hold back a cry.

He had gotten out of the tub.

He had sworn to himself today would be the day, that he wouldn't chicken out of ending his own life. How pathetic did he have to be to just get out of the bathtub like he hadn't just been trying to drown himself?

"It's fine," Kai strained in a small voice. "Just go." The ninja didn't hesitate to walk out but their concern didn't waver.

"We wanted to talk to you, we're gonna wait just out here in your room..." Nya told Kai before she shut the door behind her. She shared a concerned glance between her friends and joined Lloyd who was sitting on Kai's bed.
