An Unexpected Confession

Prompt:

"What's on your mind, Kai?" Cole leaned on the locker next to him as Kai shook himself out of his thoughts. Kai blinked at Cole for a second before letting go of his breath.

"Nah, I'm just spacing out, chilling between classes." Kai crossed his arms and leaned on the lockers as well. Cole slowly nodded. Not quite believing him but knowing not to push.

"Alright then. Have you seen Zane at all? Or Nya?" Cole was hoping that Kai had because otherwise, they'd be late for their robotics club, again. And Zane was the founder, so it's kind of hard to have the club meeting without him.

"Nope, have you seen Lloyd?" Kai asked Cole back. Cole shook his head and Kai's shoulders slumped. "Goddammit…"

"Whatcha need Lloyd for?" Cole considered that maybe Lloyd was part of what Kai had really been thinking about a few minutes ago, but Kai had noticed that Cole was trying to pry and gave him a glare. Cole playfully held up his hands and stepped back.

"Hey guys!" Lloyd conveniently popped up beside Kai and Kai almost jumped back in surprise.

"Oh nooo, it's the 'gArMaDoRk'," Cole imitated Chad. Lloyd raised his eyebrows with a small smile but rolled his eyes. Kai groaned at the reminder of Chad’s existence.

"'GaRmAdOrK aNd HiS dOrK sQuAd'." Kai pushed off of the locker mocking Chad's usual cheerleader characteristics. The three of them laughed before Lloyd pretended to act offended.

"Oh well, I guess I'll have to go elsewhere…" Lloyd was only pretending that he was about to walk away but Kai's stress levels were all over the place and he didn't quite notice the humour.

"Wait! Come back, Lloyd! I love you." Kai reached out for his arm in a panic. Lloyd laughed as he turned around to face Kai, and Cole, who was now holding his breath in anticipation, not wanting to disrupt the evolutionary moment.

"No homo right?” Lloyd gave him a smirk with raised eyebrows, though a part of his heart ached with the truth. Kai only stared back at him with a determined expression.

"No. No, I mean full homo." Kai’s hand gripped Lloyd's arm slightly tighter. Lloyd blinked, totally stunned. He hesitantly looked between Kai's hand and his eyes.

"For— For real?" Lloyd's heart beat a million miles a minute. Kai drew his breath and gave him a small nod, all while keeping his eyes locked with Lloyd's.

"Yeah. Do… Do you wanna go to prom with me?" Kai held his breath as he anticipated Lloyd's reply. His expression still hadn't shown him anything other than shock. Eventually, Lloyd was able to blink away his surprise and he half-laughed, he couldn't believe that'd just happened.

"Well— Yeah! Yeah, I— I'd love to!" Lloyd's mouth continued to hang open but he was smiling. Kai let go of his breath and grinned.

"Awesome. Let's get complimentary ties?" Kai let go of Lloyd's arm and held his fist out for Lloyd.

"Oh hell yeah!" Lloyd gave him a fist bump and they started talking about other plans for their date, all while Cole stared and gaped at the two of them.

After a minute or so of staring, he was able to close his mouth and take out his phone. He took a photo of them and slunk off, sending the photo in their group chat and telling the others about the historical event that had just unfolded in front of him, regardless of the fact that Kai would kill him later.
