Marlowe's Pov
"Wake up Low or we'll miss our flight back,"she says shaking me aggressively stirring me up. "I told you I have a private jet that isn't going anywhere unless I command it, and right now I just want to sleep,"I say still groggy. Her idea of stepping out of my comfort zone is so annoying. I think to myself before I hear her familiar deep sigh. "Marlowe and whatever goddamn last name is, you better get your fucking ass up before I make you," she says making me shudder. It might be just words to people but only I can explain why it's scary for me. She insisted on travelling to my hometown the normal way because apparently I'm too boring with being lavish and rich all the time. I can't help it babe, it's a lifestyle. "Alright, geez woman. Remind me next time to review the side effects of putting a baby in you,"I say earning a smack from her. Since we showered before the nap I change into what she picked out for me because why not. I hate anything that's not black and she's the opposite. I watch her smile contently like a proud girl done playing dress up with her doll. She unbuttons some of my buttons which immediately I button up. She insists that the huge scar on my chest is beautiful but it's my biggest insecurity. When we get to the airport there's people everywhere, something I love avoiding but seeing her face while walking with my hand in hers is something I would never want to give up. "If you wanted to show me off all you had to do is ask baby,"I say wrapping my arms around her waist from behind while standing in line, soaking in her feminine Cologne.

"Marlowe?" "Hmm,"I hum in response before there's yet another mention of my name pulling me out of my dream. " Open the door,"she says bossily and I do so.

"What happened?"

"What if I'm making a mistake leaving her like this?"

"You're not, you both want the best for your daughter and yourselves but you can't give her that together,"

"so now I'm just a divorced editor in chief single mom. You can go work for her you know, I can't promise I'll give you a raise soon,"she says despite getting most of the assets in the divorce. I'm impressed she only had one joint account with her and the rest personal. She's smart. "I'm good with what you pay me,"I say knowing I don't really care about the money, just her. "Arlo is with my parents and I don't really want to go home to my mom listing all the ways I could have saved my marriage, that's all she cares about,"she says throwing her bag in the back seat. I thought her best friend would be in court with her but I guess they really broke off their friendship.

I'm almost at the exit when I see Tommie hugging her now ex wife before she gets into her car. I look over to her to see if she noticed but she's already glaring at the car with her eyes getting glossier the more her eyes focus on them driving off. "She's a single woman now,"she says shrugging it off but I know there's hurt in her words. when she loves someone she doesn't stop, even when she should, I should know. Especially with her crazy ex girlfriend. "I know a cafe with good food you'll feel better,"I say and she just sniffles nodding her head.

She looks so beautiful without make up on. I want to reach out and hug her but I know it's not the best thing to do right now. Especially in public like this. I drive us to my favourite cafe in maybe the whole of New York. I have brought her here a couple of times when we were together and know exactly what she likes. "I haven't seen you two here in years," Becky the waiter says smiling widely but maven is too distracted to even focus on her. I follow her gaze to a young couple probably just started college cozied up up on one side talking. "She'll have the same usual,"I say before she walks away excitedly. I couldn't stand the idea of coming back here without her, so I never did.

We sit in silence letting her process the huge change in her life. After a while a plate of pancakes with maple syrup and lots of blueberries is placed before her.

"But I didn't -,"

"just try it,"I say giving her a reassuring smile. I watch her intently as she takes the first bite then second, third. "This is so good,"she says not even bothering to look up. I don't have any more ideas on how to cheer her up so I decide to drive her home before her parents get home and see me. I mean her dad couldn't even rat me out even if he wanted to but her mother on the other hand. I stop outside her door so she can get out and I can call Noah to come get me. She gets out reluctantly slamming the door.

"You'll be okay,"I say loud enough for her to hear.

"what was it like when Lulu's mom left you?"

"I umm... Devastating. She had this whole plan for our daughter and our life together, then everything changed so suddenly and she couldn't choose who to keep, between us two so she chose herself,"

"Do you still love her?"

"Ofcourse, she'll always be Luela's mom and the person I chose to have her with," I say genuinely. I'm so grateful for Lu because she's reminds me of how much her mom changed me, for the better. Ofcourse not in my business world, just the normal human life. She sighs deeply before straightening her dress and I watch her walk away into the house but not before giving me one last look. God I fucking hate my life. If she could just remember me and I wouldn't feel like life was punishing me for ever hurting her in the past. She's so different, gentle, broken, and still in love with her ex wife.

"Hey Noah, how's Lulu?"

"Great! I'm starting to think you're the cause of her misery,"

"please don't tell me you let her have ice cream before dinner or snacks either. Are you fucking eating potato chips?"

"...No,"

"then why is there crackling sounds? I will fucking kill you when I get there,"I say before hanging up. I have a driver at my disposal so I call him and he drives me to the house. I really hope she'll be okay and not do anything stupid. I think to myself because I know her mom is blaming her for her failed marriage right now and she's the only one who has a huge effect on her, especially with her words.
