Maven's Pov
"It's three days since Frankie Lefévre, Editor in Chief Maven Barnes's wife..sorry ex wife, was involved in an accident, days after her father died due to gunshot wounds. Sources say she suffered the same fate as her father in law with a gunshot wound to her chest. Her family remains quiet on her updates but sources say she lost alot of blood......" I off the TV deciding that I've had enough of it.

Two people I cared about are in hospital fighting for their lives and they're just waiting to get the next scoop about it. How did she even get shot? I'm surprised they're in the same hospital. I walk cautiously to Frankie's room because I still haven't told Arlo. She just got used to us being apart. "You did this her didn't you?" She asks with puffy red eyes. The last thing I'd want is for her to die. She's still someone I care about. We might have our issues but I'll always care about her. I loved her at one point in my life. She meant so much to me that I was ready to have babies with her.

"Where is Arlo?"

"She's safe,"is all I say. What really happened for her to even get shot? Her monitor goes off with doctors rushing into the room ushering us out. Jacklin holds on to me anxiously as the pull her bed out of the room into the emergency room. My phone vibrates and I see a text from the nurse. I told text me if anything changes with Marlowe. "Are you her family?" The doctor asks and I'm not sure I am.

"I'm her girlfriend,"I say and he eyes me up. Yes I am Maven Barnes and I'm also here for both of them. "Your girlfriend is lucky her heart didn't react to the trauma the gun shot wounds caused. It shows here she's still not cleared on the transplant list,"he says and that's one thing she never talked about. I knew about her heart surgery but never that. She hated talking about it.

"Is she going to be okay?"

"Yes. Her xray shows she's been shot before too, any idea how that might have happened?"

"No not really," I say just as a clear flashback of her telling me about it appears. "She'll wake up any minute," he says before walking away. I walk into the room and there she is, effortlessly breathtaking even in this state. This all happened so fast. I take a seat next to her bed taking her hand in mine. "Please wake up so we can be together again. I just found you,"I say remembering her words that night I got assaulted at the club. How ironic. I asked Maria to work at the penthouse because I can't get the kids here unless I'm sure they won't be shattered.

Both my kids have no idea that their heros are fighting for their lives and it's all because of me. If I hadn't remembered I'd probably have stayed away from her. "Even when my daughter is in critical condition you still choose the driver huh," she asks storming into the room. How'd she even know this room, better yet get past her security?

"Its not what it looks like Jacklin,"I say but she scoffs.

"You're pathetic,"

"I'm in love with her and I have every right to be. I married your daughter, not you and she's moved on, how's it different huh?" I ask drained. I'm tired of having to be the hang up ex wife just because I have a child with her. I'm capable of moving on too and I have. "She should have never married you, you can barely keep a child in that womb of yours,"she says and I decide to not take it personally. My condition didn't allow me to and her daughter knows that. She's always known that so I don't need to explain myself to her. I just want to focus on the kids that did make it out and her.

"Could you please leave? I'm too drained to have a back and forth Jacklin," I say genuinely before Marlowe's security walks in ushering her out but not before her cussing me out loud. I see a familiar face knowing that the scene will probably be on tabloids better yet the gossip news. I sink into the seat closing my eyes because of how exhausting it's been.
