"Doctor Brown, there was just a woman rolled in. She apparently got hit in a collision accident between her and her fiancé. Police report says she was trying to get her and her two year old son away from him but he rammed into the side of her. The son is perfectly fine since he was on the other side but, she is in brutal condition since she had some pieces of glass lodged into her body" my intern Mason told me as we walked towards the patient's room.

I nodded and took the women's file. I opened it and skimmed through her information. Her name was Monica Sawyer, She was 25 years old, the youngest of four kids, engaged to a man named Bruce Duncan who was now incarcerated for allegedly assault and abuse towards Monica and her two year old son Dominic Sawyer.

I closed the folder and slid it under my arm. "Has her family been notified?" I asked Mason. He nodded, "yes, I've contacted her mother when we first got the information as we needed a family member look out for her son. They should be out in the lobby" he told me. I nodded, "I'm gonna go see the patient. Do me a favor and go prep room 203 for surgery. Based on the police report, I'm sure she'll need surgery. Also, page Thomas and tell him to meet me there please" I told him. Without waiting for a reply, I softly knocked on the door and opened when I heard a 'come in'.

The woman, Monica, was sitting in a head wrap, and scratches and scars littered along her body. A nurse was just finishing a general observation of her vitals. When the nurse left, I walked towards the box of gloves and put some on. I then walked over to the patient who was watching my movements.

"Good Afternoon Ms. Sawyer, my name is Doctor Y/n Brown. I understand that you were involved in a car accident?" I asked her, needing to make sure she can remember the incident so that I can determine if she might have hit her head during the incident. She nodded, "um yes" she told me. "Would you mind retelling the story or is that too much?" I asked her. "Well, I remember having an argument with Bruce and I tried to leave as I needed to go pick up my son from a play date. I left and I didn't know he was following me when I picked him up so while on my way home I recognized his car was coming straight for me and after that—everything is pretty fuzzy" she told me.

Her eyes went wide and she damn near jumped from the bed but I held her down.

"My son! Oh my god is he okay?" She asked me frantically. "Your son is perfectly fine. Not a scratch on him thankfully as you had him strapped on the other side of the car. According to my intern, he's in the lobby with your mother after he was deemed okay" I told her and I could physically see her face and body relax. I removed my hands from her arms and then moved to her sides. "Ms Sawyer, does anything feel broken? Did you hit anything sever when the collision occurred?" I asked her. "Well, my head feels like it's been stopped on and the nurse told me I may have broken my leg" she told me as I looked down to see said leg in an awkward position.

I placed my hand on the visible broken leg and she immediately hissed. "Definitely broken. Okay, you're going to need surgery on it. Nothing too major. Just some plates installed into your leg so that the bone can be aligned correctly when it goes through the healing process. But, before we do that, I do want to take a ct scan to make sure you do not have a concussion" I told her and she nodded.
