Compromise

Sky used to think he was "good" by nature, that he could never do things like steal or...cheat. But lately, he's been stealing moments with the one he truly wants to be with, going behind everyone's back, making late night calls and making plans with someone who isn't his girlfriend.

But even so, they've yet to cross that line or label their relationship. But does being vague about the intricacies of their affair make it not cheating?

It was a few days ago when they met yet again at the school library, pretending to pick out books. Prapai purposely plucks out a book from the shelf in order to see Sky on the other side who then chuckles with a roll of his eyes.

Sky thinks Prapai has watched too many romantic movies and thinks he's in one. Well, maybe they are—except it's one of those tragic, forbidden love type of movies.

It was then Prapai told him about how a friend had given him tickets to a movie that, coincidentally, Sky had been dying to see. That friend must've been the ticket seller because she was the one who "gave" the tickets to Prapai after he paid. But upon seeing Sky's eyes light up at the mention of the movie title, Prapai concludes it was money well spent.

"It's this Saturday. You, uh, wanna come?" For some reason, Prapai's hands are clammy as he asks this as though he were asking him out on a date. And the way his breath hitches right as Sky parts his lips to reply only corroborates this.

"Mm..." Sky makes a show of casually skimming through the shelves before saying, "Well, we shouldn't waste free tickets. Right?"

It takes Prapai a moment to realize that's pretty much a 'yes' and he breaks into a blinding smile.

"Great!" He says a little too enthusiastically before toning it down and repeating, "Great. I'll see you then."

Sky watches him leave with a bounce to his steps. He looks at him weird; Prapai can sometimes be so simple. But once nobody is looking, Sky lets himself smile.

~~~
Prapai is sitting in the cinema by himself, letting the movie play out without truly paying attention. He keeps glancing on his phone, waiting for a message that doesn't come. But what does come is another moviegoer who occupies the seat next to him much to Prapai's surprise.
"Uh, I'm with some-" He starts to say but then the boy in a hoodie turns to look at him and Prapai is momentarily stunned before breaking into a chuckle. He pinches his nose bridge, shaking his head.
"I thought it was someone else."
"Why?" Sky asks under his breath with a mean smirk. "You thought I ditched you?"
"Well...there could've been a glitch along the way." Prapai whispers.
And at this, Sky sinks into his seat and sighs. If you could call a one hour phone call with your girlfriend, begging to spend one weekend apart and having to wait for your father to finally leave the house just so you could go out without getting interrogated a glitch, then yes, there's been a glitch.
"Never mind that." Sky tells the other. "What matters is I'm here now."
And Prapai couldn't agree more.
They finally sit back and actually watch the movie. But Sky would be lying if he were to say he isn't distracted, what with Pai's knee touching his and their hands on the armrest between their seats brushing against each other.
He feels silly for paying too much attention to such things but he can't help it. And he's wondering if he's the only one which would be answered shortly.
