I walk into the canteen the next day with nowhere to sit. I can't sit in the toilets like an idiot so I have to find a seat. I quickly scout around the room for a place. Not with the emos (I am kinda scared of them), not with the band geeks (I only play triangle) and DEFINITELY not with Megan and the others. I spot a hand waving to me ad I see Molly trying to grab my attention. I walk over and ask if I can join her and her friends. They aren't exactly my type of friends but they are nice enough so I take a seat next to a tall girl called Mari. She smile at me and swishes her long, dark braids ovr her shoulder. They are all discussing a party they are planning for soon and one offers me an invite.
"it's going to be sweet!" She grins and I smile back gratefully. At least I have some people I can sit with.
As the bell rings, Molly and I walk, arms linked together and she tries to cheer me up. Most people in my year are alright with me now, some even said hi this morning but the cheerleaders and my old friends still seem to hate me. There's one person I might be able to crack though. Alyssa. Alyssa has always been really sweet and bubbly and can never hold a grudge for long so I'm sure she can't be annoyed at me for much longer.
I grab my books from my locker and wave goodbye to Molly. I head off to homeroom early, figuring I can't walk in late like I have been before, so I go into the room and sit in my seat. Most people carry on ike usual and don't pay attention to me so I join a conversation with a couple of other girls. They don't seem to be annoyed at me so I chat alog with them, cracking a couple of joes in hope of finding new friends.
The door to the classroom swings open and Kaitlyn and Alyssa, in cheer uniform, walk in alongside Megan, Kyle, Noah and Hayes. They all ignore me, except from Hayes who looks awkward. I smile at him and he turns his head away, before wrapping his arm around Megan. She smirks at me and I grimace. I mustn't have been like them? Was I?
...
The bell rings for the end of the day and I head out of science class to find Molly. I spot her by her locker with her friends and I run over.
"Ready to go?" I ask and she frowns.
"Ohh... Shit Sophie I forgot. I'm going to the mall with the girls and there's no space in the car."
"So I have to walk home? It's miles." I complain and huff. She shrugs and slams her locker.
"Fine then." I say and head out of school.
I am walking along the side walk getting ready to cross when I hear a car pulling up beside me. I get ready to run - after all, stranger danger has been drilled into my head since day one - but a familiar voice barks at me, "Get in."
Nash is leaning out of the truck with one hand on the wheel.
"Come on Sophie." He orders and I run round the side of the truck so I can ride shotgun. When I climb in Nash gives me a small smile then drives the car back on to the road. We sit quietly, not really chatting, until Nash begins to ask me questions.
"Heard you broke up with that Tanner dude. You gonna spill the deets?"
"Well, we were alright at first but then, I don't know, he got really weird..." I say and fold my arms.
"Ohhh." He says. We drive for a bit longer and then he turns into a corner to stop.
"Sophie, you and Hayes need to make up. I don't care if you don't date but you two have been friends since you first met and you can't throw that all away over a bitchy girlfriend who Hayes will break up with in the next month." Nash pleads. "Skylynn misses you so much you know." He says and I hang my head.
"But every time I even try to smile at your brother he just ignores me. It's like he doesn't want to know me."
"Sophie, we are going to my house."
We pull up outside the Grier residence and my heart starts to pound. I don't want to see Hayes, let alone talk to him and I know he will shrug me off.
"Nash, I don't think this is your best idea." I say but he ignores me and walks me up the path to the front door. After knocking on the door, it swings open and I see Sky standing in front of me.
"Sophieeeeee!" She squeals and runs to me. I pick her up and give her a hug. I follow Nash into the house and see Elizabeth. She smiles when she sees me and I wave.
"hey Sophie. How you been?"
"Good thank you." I smile and place Sky on the floor. She runs off upstairs and I follow Nash while he looks for Hayes. We walk upstairs and finally I hear music pounding through the walls of Hayes's room. Nash swings the door open and pushes me in.
"Hayes, listen up." Nash yells and Hayes flicks off the music. He frowns when he sees me and I cross my arms.
"I'm gonna reiterate what I said in the car. You two, especially you Hayes, need to get your heads out of your asses and MAKE UP. This is legitimately the stupidest falling out I have ever seen." He raves on and I just look Hayes in the eyes. I can see he knows Nash I right and he hangs his head, turning away when we meet eyes.
"Hayes, why are you letting a girl like Megan make you lose your best friend?" Nash questions. Hayes says nothing and I sigh.
"Fine, I am going to leave you two alone and when I come back I want you to have made up or... or else." He says, sounding deadly serious.
Hayes and I are left alone in silence.
"Hayes. Why are you doing this?" ask him simply and he finally looks me in the eyes. He still says nothing.
"I swear to god Hayes if you don't say something I am not going to carry on trying to make up with you." Is ay and wait for an answer. When he doesn't answer I feel my eyes fil with tears. I bink them back and look at him through eyes filled with hatred.
"Fine. Don't ever talk to me again."
