“Hey Soph, do you feel like fishing today?” Dad hollers up the stairs. I grimace and yell back, “Fishing? Dad I'm not ten anymore.”
“C'mon Soph, just like the old days.” He says hopefully and, after remembering all our memories from middle school summers at the lake, I give in.
“Yay!” He yells like a little kid. “Get your swimsuit cos we are having a day at the lake!”
I groan and find my bikini. When I am changed into that, I pull clothes over it then find a towel. Dad throws one to me, I catch it then run out to Dad's truck. He blasts the radio and we drive to the lake.
We run down the jetty together and jump on to our little boat. Dad drives us out into the open water, stops and then we both cast our rods into the water.
“How come Hayes hasn't stopped by then?” He says, breaking the peaceful silence.
“No reason...” I say quietly. Dad raises an eyebrow but I ignore him and reel in my line to see if I have caught anything. Annoyingly, there is just a strand of lake weed caught to the hook.
“Ugh.” I groan and toss my head back. The september sun is shining in my eyes so I close them when suddeny I hear dad shouting.
“Hey guys!” I look up and see Dad waving to a boat drifting beside us.
“Sophie!” Hayes is leaning over the edge, waving at me and Nash is waving too. A sudden wave jolts their boat and Hayes gets flung into the water. I try to stifle my laugh but I end up cackling with laughter, doubled up and holding my stomach.
“Hey!” Hayes says and I see he is gripping on the edge of our boat.
“Hey.” I laugh and he clambers on to it along with Nash. Their step dad looks after their boat as we sit on the deck and chat.
“Come jump in the water with me?” I ask. They agree and we stand on the edge of the boat.
“One, two, three!” I yell and we throw our selves into the water. Bubbles burst in my ear and water swirls around me. I break through the surface gasping and then yell, “I wanna do that again!”
W jump a few more times then I decide to throw a back tuck off of the edge.
“Me too!” Hayes yells so we simultaneously flip off the edge.
“Hey guys do that again and I will make a vine of you.” Nash shouts and we grin at each other.
“Cool stuff!” Nash says to his phone then switches his phone to the front camera and vines us as we do our back flips. I swim to him with Hayes and he films us for the end of the vine. I smile goofily and Hayes pulls a funny face.
“One million revines!” Nash jokes as he posts it, making me laugh.
I point at the cliff from where we jumped at the party and I tell dad I am going to jump off it.
“Me too!” hayes shouts to his step dad and we swim to the banks of the lake together. We walk to the cliff through the forest then reach the edge.
“I'm a bit scared Hayes.” I say after looking at the huge drop.
“Don't worry Sophie.” He says. “You did it at the party?”
“Yeah, but I was a bit, y'know, out of it.”
“Hold my hand then.” He holds out his palm and I grab it. We step to the edge and, in a whirl, we jump away from the side and hurtle towards the water below. I hit it with such force the air is knocked out of me and I come up gasping like a fish out of water.
“That's was amazing!” Hayes whoops. I laugh and we swim back to the boat. Nash motions to us and we sit beside im, wrapped in towels.
“Guys, loads of fans on twitter have started rumours that you guys are dating. Sophie, your vine account has gone from like, no offence, hardly any followers to nearly ninety k in less than an hour. And #sayes is trending on twitter.” He holds up his phone which is buzzing like mad; loads of messages coming through with my twitter username in all of them.
“Oh my god.” We say in unison.
“What about Megan?” I say to him quietly.
“Let's just hope she never finds out.”
