Chapter 28 - Revelations

 

I debate whether I should leave or stay. I turn over my shoulder once they have entered the room and see Megan's icy mom in the kitchen so I mentally cross out the first option. After taking a couple of calming breaths and wiping the tears I have forgotten to cry, I push open the wooden door and enter what appears to be a games room. I scope out the room and see a pool table, a dartboard, some games machines and a huge flat screen tv.

"Sophie!" Hayes shouts and I see them sitting in a circle on the plush carpet. Each of them have a fruity looking drink in their hand.

"Do you want a drink babes?" Megan asks and goes to a little side table where a shaker sits. Cocktails? She pours me a red one and sticks a little umbrella in it, even though we are in the middle of October.

"Are you sure it's... okay?" I say shyly.

"Don't be boring Sophie." Kaitlyn says and, even though I know she is a bit drunk. I am still hurt.

I take the drink and down it in one go. They cheer for me and I join their circle, waiting Tanner and Megan's every move. I see tanner eyes drift to her every once in a while, a move I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't witnessed what I have. I am handed another drink by Alyssa and I slowly sip it, my bitch face locked on, staring them down.

"What's wrong Sophie? You seem tense?" Hayes asks me kindly.

"Nothing... Nothing at all." I say. My mind is starting to fuzz over and I feel... strange. I laugh to myself and the others laugh along.

"So we doing this or what?" Noah says.

"Doing what?"

"Dares. It'll be fun." Kyle says. I look at them all and give in because, I could use it to see if I could expose Megan and Tanner. Tanner comes to sit next to me, curling his arm around my tense shoulders.

"You look hot today." He whispers in my ear, making my skin crawl. He's such a creep.

"I'll start." I say and pull away from him. I grab a bottle and use it as a spinner. I turn it and it lands on... Alyssa. I frown because I really wanted to get Megan or Tanner but hey ho. I think to myself then give her the cliché dare of kissing the boy on her left. Kyle. Alyssa goes bright red then turns to him. She smiles and he leans towards her before giving her a quick peck on the lips. She giggles an turns away, head in her hands. She spins the bottle and it lands on Noah so she dares him. I blank out for a bit of the game until, suddenly, I realise all eyes are on me.

"What?" I ask. I look down and see the open end of the bottle pointing my way.

"What is it going to be?" I ask nonchalantly. Kaitlyn, who spun me, thinks for a minute then her eyes light up.

"I'll spin again and the next boy I land on you have to make out with... for half a minute." My eyes widen because firstly, my boyfriend is sitting to my right, and secondly, all the boys in this room are taken so I cannot make out with one without someone getting pissed. I sip my drink so I can at least use the old 'I was drunk, I can't remember a thing' as an excuse. Kaitlyn spins and I watch as the bottle swings round and round, tension building with each rotation. I squeeze my eyes shut as it slows and when I hear the others gasp I peek through my eyelashes.

Hayes.

I sigh and peer round to see Megan looking slightly furious. Oh well, I'm drunk and she kissed my boyfriend so... I crawl so I am nearer to Hayes and wait for him to lean in. I close my eyes and feel as he puts his mouth on mine. Instantly butterflies begin to fly around manically in my stomach. I feel his mouth move so I go in time with him. To put on a show for the others and place my hands round his neck.

"OKAY!" Someone yells and we jump apart. I look down, not willing to say anything, and move back next to Tanner.

"Steamy make out sesh you two." Alyssa winks, to ease the tension. I see Megan cuddling up to Hayes, marking her territory as she glares at me.

"How about we play hide and seek huh?" Someone suggests and we all nod in agreement. Alyssa and Kyle volunteer to "count" together so we all scatter to hide in Megan's grand house. Tanner drags me outside where a huge pool, lit up purple and pink, comes into view. I look at Tanner who nods, the signal for us to jump in. I do a neat swallow dive into the clear water and we swim quickly to the stairs of the pool where we will be out of view of the house.

I scrape the stray strands of hair out of my face and laugh as Tanner doggy paddles over to me. He squeezes next to me and I predict what is coming next. He wraps his arms round my waist and pulls my body towards him. I push away but he is to strong.

"If you can kiss Grier like that, let's see what you do with me." He growls in a voice that he must think is sexy. He pushes his mouths on to mine and pulls my body so I am straddle on his knee. I don't like it but he grips me so I can't get off. His hands paw at my legs and when I feel them moving up, trying to get under my skirt I manage to push off him and scramble out of the pool, soaking wet.

I huff as I get out and see the others standing there. I pull down my skirt and shyly hold my arm. They all stare at me with weird expressions on their faces.

"I have to go." I say and run to the gate leading to the front drive. I hear footsteps pounding but I don't look back as I feel tears running down my face. I swing the gate open and run down the drive until I find a patch of grass that I can sit on to call Molly. Then I realise I have left my phone inside. I exhale then burst into tears.

"You looking for something." Hayes appears next to me, my cheer bag in his hand.

"Thank you... so much." I sigh and run to him. I grab my bag then, after pausing for a millisecond, I hug him, covering him in water.

"Hayes I'm sorry." I cry into his shoulder as he laughs.

"Sorry for what Soph? the kiss was a dare."

"I know but Megan... she just..." I gasp then collapse back on to the verge of grass. He sits next to me and we gaze at the sky turning red and purple.

"How did you get to the show offs so quick after the show?" I ask as I wipe my tears.

"I had Nash drive me. I couldn't miss my best friends show could I?" he grins. "You were awesome by the way!" I smile at the compliment and dry my face.

"I..." I can't start my next sentence.

"You what?" He says softly.

"I'm going to break up with Tanner at school tomorrow." I spit it right out and I see his face turn from happiness to worry.

"Why?"

"I don't like him anymore Hayes. I don't think I really did at the start." I think I just got with him to get over Hayes.

"Well, if it makes things any better, I think he's a bit of a douche." This draws a laugh from me and I stand up.

"I'd better call Molly." I say and he stands up as well. I look into his ocean blue eyes and he smiles. He pulls me in for a hug and I wrap my arms round his waist. I inhale his warm boy smell and feel his arm stroke my back. I loom over his shoulder and see, looking frostily out of the front window, Megan glaring at us.
