When Kaitlyn breaks this news to me, I cannot believe my ears.
"Excuse my French... he fucking what???" I exclaim. Kaitlyn shakes her head.
"I know. When he told me that he started the rumour... it was like my breaking point. He and Megan are like the devil couple. And I used to really like them y'know?" I nod along with her but my head is spinning from this news.
Mom pulls up outside the window so I excuse myself then run to the car. Once I am in I take time to think about the whole day. It amazes me that, not even three months ago, I was praying for Hayes to come back to Carolina and now he is the last person on earth I want to see.
"You okay?" Mom asks and I snap out of my daze. I nod vaguely in her direction and look down at my palms.
"Jack is at the house with Molly and he brought along Nash by the way. He seems kinda keen to talk to you." She tells me and I sigh. Whatever Nash is going to tell me on behalf of Hayes, I really can't be bothered to hear it.
We arrive at home and I storm into the house. Molly and jack are snuggled up on the sofa watching Modern Family and Nash is in the kitchen making a PB&J.
"You alright? What else has happened?" He asks through a mouthful when I pace angrily into the room.
"Every day I seem to find out more and more shit about your brother." I wave my hands to get my point across.
"What happened now?" He raises a brow and takes a sip of water.
"According to Mr Hayes, I tried to have sex with him whilst he was going out with Megan."
"Wait they broke up?" Nash gasps.
"No they are still together... that isn't the point. Did you even hear the last part."
"Yeah. Geez, Hayes is being a bit of fucktard recently. He thinks he is such a big man now." Nash laughs. I can't help but laugh at what he said but I am still pissed.
"I need to have a long talk with him. If only he would open his mouth and vibrate his vocal chords in my direction." I huff and sit by the breakfast bar.
"We can go to my place if you want. Hayes is probably there." He offers but I decline.
"I need to go do something to get my mind off it." I loom around for something to power the inspiration side of my brain but nothing helps.
"Molly?" Mom calls.
"What?" Molly replies, obviously agitated that she is interrupting her and jack's time together.
"can you run to the store for me. I need some stuff." Mom calls and I hear Molly sulking.
"Nooooo Mom I am busy." She says and that is when Nash's face lights up.
"Hey we can go for you" He offers and mom softens. She has always had a soft spot for the Grier siblings.
"Oh Nash thank you so much. And Sophie, you going too?" She asks and I tell her I guess I could tag along.
We head for Nash's truck which is parked outside their house. When I look up at the house, I am almost 100% sure I can see Hayes peering out of his room down at us. I climb into the truck to ride shotgun and we drive away.
We pull up to the store with mom's gigantic shopping list in hand.
"This could take a while so..." And with that sad he rips the list in half and pushes me a shopping cart.
"Go find the stuff and clear your head. I'll meet you back here when you are done." When he says this I can't help but think of mine and Molly's little camp out after the boys were round and how upset I was after talking about Hayes.
"See you in a while."
Should I be friends with Hayes again? Is there a part of me that is telling me it's a bad idea? Have I still got slight feelings for him after all this time?
The last statement throws me so I go around hastily collecting things for mom. However, even when I realise I have almost completed my half of the list, my brain still isn't clear.
I cart-surf around the corner when no one is there and suddenly the front of the cart swerves and I crash into someone else who is cart-surfing like me.
"Holy... Sophie?" I recognise the voice and look up from the floor where I am picking up my items to see Hayes. His face is full of concern which really hits home.
"Hayes...." I don't have a clue what to say so I et my voice trail off.
"Sophie, I think we need to talk."
"We need to do more than talk Hayes. You need to get you shit together. It's about time you gave me some kind of explanation."
"What is there to explain. You know the whole story."
"It's more than that Hayes. It's why you did it. I need to know it all. You owe it to me, don't you think?"
"Look... not here." He looks around warily. "I saw you and Nash come in together and well, he and I aren't on the best of terms. My own brother is taking someone else's side. That's fucked up." He mutters under his breath.
"Meet me later then. We can chat... whatever you want."
"Fine. The park, half sevenish?"
