Jack ended up spending way more time with us then I'd expected. After only a day of meeting him, mom and dad have decided to make Molly and I invite him and the guys over for dinner whilst they are out of town. And, for some reason, that meant Hayes as well.
I walk into the family room and see Molly and jack curled up together watching a rerun of Friends. I creep up behind the sofa and wait for the perfect moment to strike.
"BOO!" I yell and shake both their shoulders. In an instant, jack swings his muscular arm up and hits me square in the face. I rock backwards and fall on my bum.
"Owwww." I groan and cradle my face in my hands.
"Oh sh..... sugar potatoes..." jack says, narrowly avoiding a curse and I laugh, though my face is throbbing.
"What was that for?" I ask and he looks sheepish.
"I thought you were a robber." He says nd I raise an eyebrow.
"here, let's get you some ice." Molly says and grabs my hand, pulling me up off the floor.
In the kitchen I sit on the counter whilst Molly ices my face. When mom walks in and sees the damage, a confused look spreads across her face.
"What happened?"
"I don't want to talk about it." I laugh and groan as my face starts to sting because of the ice. When I look in the mirror I see my lower eyelid has already begun to swell up however I can't help but laugh at myself.
"I can't believe the boys have to see me like this." I say to Molly as she wanders around the kitchen on a hunt for snacks.
"Hey don't worry. At least you have no one to impress." Molly says casually, but it hurts me knowing I won't even talk to Hayes.
"Hey, I was thinking we could order some pizza or something casual instead of a fancy meal. And I rented a couple of films so we could watch one if you want." Molly says and I agree; it sounds like a plan.
...
The doorbell rings loudly and I pace it down the stairs. Smoothing down my shirt, I swing open the door and let in the guys.
"Oh my god. What happened to your eye Sophie?" Aaron asks and they gasp at the purple bruise on my eye.
"I got in a fistfight with some cage fighters." I joke and they laugh.
"nah, Jack G decided to elbow me in the eye." I laugh and they widen their eyes. I explain everything and Jack G appears and begins to defend himself. After finding out what really happened, I tell them to head through to the family room where there are snacks and stuff. Last of all, Hayes walks through the door awkwardly and I give him a, as I would like to think, frosty look. I walk haughtily in front of him and he paces behind, following me into the family room. Jack and Molly are snuggling so I take a seat next to Taylor. I yawn and stretch and Taylor laughs.
"Someone is tired." He says and I nod sleepily.
"here." He lifts up his arm and offers for me to rest against him. I am about to decline and then I see Hayes watching us from the other corner of the room. I remember how Taylor "gets" to him and decide to lie down and see his reaction.
"Thanks." I say to Taylor and snuggle up next to him. I see Hayes' face drop ad I smirk. Taylor is four years older than me so I am not going to be flirting - this is obviously just between friends. I look around the room and see that none of the other guys care; only Hayes.
"So, shall we order pizza?" I say when the room goes silent and they all agree. Orders are thrown at me and in the end I hand the menu to Taylor as he clearly knows what the guys like off by heart.
The pizzas arrive about a half hour later and we dig in to the many boxes of cheesy pizza. My mouth waters at the sight and I grab a slice of cheese pizza before they are all gone. I lie back against Taylor and rest my feet across Nash and Carter. When the pizza is all gone, Molly puts a disc into the DVD player.
"What film?" I mumble and try not to fall asleep on Taylor.
"The Conjuring." Molly says and my eyes widen. Some of the guys spot my face and laugh so I try to play off my fear with a giggle. However, inside of me, I am absolutely terrified.
Ten minutes into the film I already have my head under the blanket and Taylor is hugging me. I feel like crying because Molly knows I hate scary movies.
"You okay?" Taylor whispers and I shake my head.
"Try falling asleep." He says and I nod. He is right because soon I am dozing off, in some kind of food coma.
...
"Soph?" I blink my eyes open and see Molly over me.
"What..." I groan and see the room is empty apart from her and I.
"The guys are gone." She says and I realise that the house is completely quiet.
"I see." I say sarcastically and she rolls her eyes.
"Anyway, I was thinking you and I could go on a little trip."
"To where? Molly it's like... eleven o'clock." I whine but she just pulls me up and tells me to put some shoes on.
We drive to the nearest Target and go inside. Molly give me a list of things to get.
-Marshmallows
-graham crackers
-Some chocolate bars
-a scented candle (preferably an autumn one)
-bamboo poles
-a tarpaulin
I give the list a funny look.
"It'll make sense don't worry." Molly reassures me.
"It isn't the ingredients for some satanic ritual is it?" I laugh and she shakes her head.
"Just go little sis. I have the other half of the list so I will meet you here in... half an hour?" She pushes a shopping cart to me and I head into the aisles. I figure out that the first three things are for s'mores but I can't figure out what the rest are for.
I find everything within ten minutes so I go sit in the food court with my items and order a double cheeseburger for the wait. The lady at the checkout gives me a strange look but I ignore her, feeling another wave of tiredness setting in. I yawn and turn it into me taking a bite of my burger.
Molly wheels her cart over a while later and we trail to the checkout. Again we get funny looks for the array of items but we leave the store quickly so we can get home quickly.
...
"Okay, no peeking until I tell you!" Molly orders. She has had me blindfolded for nearly twenty minutes and I have nearly fallen asleep twice. She has been clattering around in the garden, letting out a steady stream of curse words every now and then and I can tell she is getting frustrated.
"Done!" She sighs and I rip off the blindfold. In the centre of the garden stands and cute little tent, made from all the supplies from the shopping spree. Inside, there are no-battery fairy lights hung up and she has set up an area for s'mores.
"That... is... so... cool!" I say and climb into the tent. Inside she has filled it with cushions and blankets.
"How about a campout then"?
We toast marshmallows and sit chatting until the sun comes up. The night was warm and the blankets kept us at the perfect, toasty-cinnamon-bun temperature.
"So, have you and Hayes sorted everything out?" Molly asks and I widen my eyes.
"Do you even know anything about me?" I laugh and she looks shocked.
"I thought you had?"
I shake my head and munch on a s'more.
"I'm really not bothered anymore. He had his chance and the boy has lost it." I say and lie down. Suddenly, after the conversation, I feel my eyes water and I burst into tears.
